Zabil (ザビル, Zabiru) was one of the main antagonists of Ultraman Trigger: Episode Z. A human from the Ultra-Ancient Civilization era, he is the true leader of Leyrah who goes undercover as the new captain of GUTS-Select, Ryuichi Tokioka (トキオカ リュウイチ, Tokioka Ryūichi).

History[]

Past[]

Ultraman Trigger Ultra Ancient Stone Tablet

The stone tablet that Zabil created, chronicling the events of the Ultra-Ancient Civilization.

Zabil was a scientist working under the Terran Protection Team who assisted Yuzare in fending off against the Giants of Darkness. He also witnessed Yuzare's death, Ultraman Trigger's turn to the light, and the sealing of the three Giants of Darkness. The resulting shock at this and that of the deaths of his countless comrades led him to believe that humans are weak beings who needed to become the "light" to be able to defend the Earth for themselves, and began a plan to steal the light from Ultraman Trigger. Zabil wrote the contents of the stone tablet that was now under GUTS-Select's custody, anticipating the return of the three Giants of Darkness one day, and set his plan into motion.

Zabil then made it to the modern era where he took on the alias of Ryuichi Tokioka and joins TPU as Mitsukuni Shizuma's right hand man. He had helped them with researching the remains of the Ultra-Ancient ruins and even guided Akito Hijiri during their study of the Ancient Sparklence and its mechanisms, using it for the creation of the GUTS Sparklence. While the events of Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga took place, Zabil and his fellow cultists observe the reawakening of Ultraman Trigger and his subsequent battles, as well as his eventual sacrifice to stabilize the Eternity Core. At some point later, he succeeded Seiya Tatsumi as the new captain of GUTS-Select and had helped them in their fight against recurring monster attacks.

Ultraman Trigger: Episode Z[]

Through a long-winded conspiracy, Zabil and the other members of his cult, Leyrah, removed Kengo Manaka from the Eternity Core with GUTS-Select's help while stabilizing the Eternity Core's energy by sending the light of the Sun to it through the Sol satellite. With cooperation from Celebro, Zabil managed to retrieve Kengo's GUTS Sparklence and GUTS Hyper Keys, hooking it up to the Eternity Core's altar, and then sacrificing the lives of his cultists to create an artificial "light" based on Trigger's data. Using the Ancient Sparklence, Zabil transformed into Evil Trigger, consumed by his desire to become a messianic figure for humanity. Following Evil Trigger's destruction, Zabil regained his humanity and remembered Yuzare's smile and the times he had with his comrades by watching GUTS-Select together. He faded into light, smiling as he died. Ultraman Trigger: Episode Z

Transformation[]

As Evil Trigger is an artificial Ultraman, the ritual needed to facilitate this transformation requires the assistance of his fellow cultists. After Zabil stole the GUTS Sparklence and GUTS Hyper Keys from Kengo, he hooked it up to an altar at the Eternity Core's entrance. He then had his cultists place four glyphs on the four surrounding pillars and, chanting "R'lyeh Ku Leyrah" (ルルイエ・ク・ライラー, Ruruie Ku Rairā) (meaning "hope and light"), they transmuted their lives into "light". Zabil then holds the Ancient Sparklence towards it and transforms into Evil Trigger.

Powers and Weapons[]

  • GUTS Hyper Launcher (GUTSハイパーランチャー, Gattsu Haipā Ranchā): A U-shaped recoilless cannon that can harness the power of three Kaiju Keys into a single large beam. Users are required to be physically fit to wield the cannon, as in the case of Zabil when assuming the Tokioka alias.
  • Kaiju Keys: Cartridges that holds the power of Ultra Kaiju. "Tokioka" uses three to empower his GUTS Hyper Launcher.
  • GUTS Sparklence: Standard firearm weapon for GUTS-Select members.
  • Ancient Sparklence: Transformation Item as Evil Trigger.

Trivia[]

  • Taking into account on Evil Trigger being the counterpart of Evil Tiga, Zabil can be said to be the counterpart to Keigo Masaki, a man who also desired the power of an Ultraman to lead mankind. Whereas Keigo was a human with Ultra Ancient genes who forcibly fused with Evil Tiga, therefore corrupting and losing control of the giant in the process, Zabil fashioned Evil Trigger through the use of Ultraman Trigger's data from Kengo's items that he stole, as well as retaining control of his Ultraman alter ego.
    • Additionally, Zabil is also a counterpart to Nook, a fellow scientist from the Ultra-Ancient era who survives long enough to see an Ultra from their original era resurrected in the present day.
  • Tokioka's relation to Evil Trigger was hinted by his actor, Yuichi Nakamura, in an interview with Oricon when he mentions to take notes of Kengo and Haruki's transformation steps, calling them as his "seniors" before Raiga Terasaka and Kohshu Hirano told him to stop.[1]
  • Despite coming all the way from the Ultra-Ancient era to the present day, no real explanation was given as to how he managed to do that, either as a form of time travel or acquiring immortality.
