Trivia[]
- The inspiration for this episode came from an internal discussion within the production team: "Can we create something fresh with a theme based on Western monsters?" This led to the development of a vampire story that combines scientific elements with a touch of Gothic horror.[2]
- Keiichi Hasegawa shared that a "vampire theme" was something he had long wanted to explore. To achieve this, he asked Hirochika Muraishi to infuse the episode with a hardboiled style. However, as the episode's intensity made it a bit challenging for younger audiences, this was something the production team felt they needed to reflect upon.
- The vampire's movements in the episode were inspired by violent Western vampire films.
- The interactions between Onoda and Munakata in this episode were meant to portray the decisive choices men make when faced with insurmountable challenges. Hasegawa has always aimed to depict characters overcoming barriers in their relationships through certain turning points. In this story, Yukina's "light" serves to convey the emotions of reconciliation.
- Muraishi added that, when directing GUTS' mobilization scenes, he referenced the style of episode 13, "Human Collecting," and took on the challenge of replicating that same coordinated formation for this episode's action sequences.
- Some elements from this episode were later referenced in Ultraman Dyna episode 33 "Star of Peace," which was also directed and written by Hasegawa.
