History

Ultraman Blazar

An alien race who had lost their home planet and embarked on a journey to find a new world to inhabit, the V99 used their wormhole technology to dispatch their kind in unarmed space probes to scout for potentially habitable planets. In 1999, one of their scout vessels was sent to Earth, but it was shot down indiscriminately on orders by Yu Dobashi, then first commander of the space defense forces. Upon realizing that it was an unarmed spaceship, the top brass decided to hide the truth and covered it up as a "meteorite incident". But the damage was already done, and the loss of their comrade to humanity's ruthlessness prompted the V99 to declare Earth as a dangerous planet out of fear.

The GGF would later reverse-engineer the V99 scout vessel to build Earth Garon and their wormhole-generating technology, the latter of which resulted in the accident at Test Facility 66 that brought Ultraman Blazar and Gento Hiruma together.

Three years later, the V99 would send the First Wave, Bazanga, to counter humanity's airborne infantry, but the unexpected intervention of Ultraman Blazar resulted in its defeat. First Wave

When Emi Aobe was investigating Novaio's CEO Sonezaki and Leviera, she came across top secret GGF documents that not only mentioned the extraterrestrial amorphous organism as Leviera's progenitor, but also attempted to establish a relation with the V99, though uncertain. Thus Fought Emi

The V99 would send the Second Wave, Gebalga, to cripple Earth's network infrastructure and communication systems with its EMP waves, but the space kaiju would be defeated by Blazar's Tilsonite Sword. Let's Go, Blazar! However, it succeeded in dropping the payload and propagating more of its offspring, giving rise to Irugo and Brood Gebalga whose mission was to pollute the atmosphere with toxic gas, but their plans would be thwarted by Blazar, who had regained his Firdran Armor. Light and Flame

At the same time, Emi would do some digging on the space kaiju to uncover the truth behind her father Tatsuki Aobe's disappearance at Test Facility 66. She discovered that both Bazanga and Gebalga arrived along the same trajectory as the "meteorite" from 1999, SKaRD Nocturne and infiltrated the GGFJ Information Control server rooms to retrieve documents on V99 before being confronted by Dobashi himself. Moonlit Memories Her father's former colleague Tsutomu Nishizaki entrusted her with the key to her father's journal, which described his research and his wishes to communicate with the V99, but it was confiscated by Dobashi. Light and Flame

Eventually, their dark secrets would come to light when the V99 sent the Third Wave, Varallon, to wipe out humanity completely. After Varallon landed on Earth, the V99 space fleet finally made themselves known as they appeared from wormholes and began to close in on the planet. On Dobashi's command, the GGF prepared their entire arsenal for the supposed invasion, but Emi intervened, exposed the truth of the 1999 incident, and lobbied for open communications with the V99 to avoid a repeat of their past mistakes. Convinced, they collectively laid down their weapons and stated their desire to make peace via Earth Garon. Emi's final message, which spoke of the "future", resonated with the V99, who eventually stood down and departed for a new world beyond the blazar in a galaxy far, far away. Trivia

BlazarEmiFatherNotes

Emi's father's notes on the V99

  • The design of the ships operated by V99 seem to be based on Mokian from Ultraman Gaia[2], and appear to be retooled from Greeza's Final Form from Ultraman X as well as Purana from Neo Ultra Q.
  • The V99's discussion of a "Planet of Light" and Gento's mentioning of their new world being beyond a blazar suggests that the V99's origins may have ties to the M421 galaxy and Ultraman Blazar himself, though this has yet to be elaborated upon.
  • Kengo Kusunoki, the designer of Varallon, has mentioned that he would have liked to design the V99 too, if possible.[3] When asked what kind of lifeform he would have liked the V99 to be, Kusunoki proposed two ideas: that it would be better to hide the truth, or that its true form could not be perceived by the human senses.[4]
  • Emi's father's notes describe the technology, appearance, and language of the V99.
    • One thing that stands out is that the V99 have an appearance that is most similar to cicadas on Earth and that their language has symbols resembling scissors, in addition to their mention of a "Planet of Light" during their communication with Earth Garon. This, and perhaps the show's theme of communication, may be a reference to the Alien Baltan and the episode they debuted in, Ultraman episode 2 "Shoot the Invaders!".
    • The line graph on the left page has the following labels: EX, SS, ST, SG, V1, and V2. The first four labels are references to the XIG Fighters, while the last two are references to Ultraman Gaia and Ultraman Agul's forms.
  • In Hyouri Takahashi's Tsuburaya Dive, an interview segment hosted by Hyouri Takahashi on TSUBURAYA IMAGINATION, Kiyotaka Taguchi, the main director of Ultraman Blazar, talks about the V99 (it is to note that this is the director's head canon and not meant to tie into the setting of Ultraman Blazar unless stated otherwise) [5][6]:
    • With regards to the V99's relationship with the space kaiju, Taguchi uses their biological and ethological differences to point out that Bazanga, Gebalga, and Varallon did not originate from the V99's home world, and were in fact wild creatures from other planets that were captured and sent on the same trajectory to Earth. He also does not believe that there are naturally occurring kaiju on the V99's home world.
    • Taguchi mentions that if Emi's attempts to communicate with the V99 fell through and humanity decided to retaliate, the fleet might have dropped some form of "kaiju payload" to conclusively wipe out human civilization.
