Biography

"I'm the Grand Master of the Cosmo Beast Style, Ultraman Regulos of the Red Dragon White Tiger Fist!"

―Ultraman Regulos

Ultraman Regulos (ウルトラマンレグロス, Urutoraman Regurosu) is an Ultraman who first appeared in Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Destined Crossroad.[2][3] He was originally introduced in Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy as a silhouetted figure who was imprisoned in Narak. Regulos learned the Cosmo Beast Style from Planet D60, an exoplanet orbiting a star in the constellation of Draco.[4][5]

Conception

Etymology

Regulos' name is taken from Regulus, the brightest star in the Leo constellation, whose name in turn is derived from the Latin word Rēgulus, meaning 'Prince' or 'Little King'.

Design

Regulos is based on Ultraman Leo.[6] His shoulder tattoos are based on seals that martial artists would receive after mastering a particular style of kung fu.[6]

History

Ultraman Regulos

One day, a comatose Regulos landed on Planet D60 with no memories other than his own name. He was found by Spica, a practitioner of the Cosmo Beast Style of space martial arts. She introduced him to Master Alude, who allowed him to stay on the planet to train in the Cosmo Beast Style while he would recovered his memories, where he would meet and become friends with fellow outsider trainee Dias. He would soon start friendly rivalries with Ultraman Leo and Astra of Planet L77, sparring with them from time to time.

After some time, Planet L77 was destroyed by the Alien Magma, whose sights became set on D60 as their next target. Enraged by the presumed loss of his friends and the Magmas' advancement on D60, Regulos engaged and swiftly lost to the Magma Admiral Volcan, who soon after poisoned Master Alude to the point of him no longer being able to perform the Cosmo Beast Style. Regulos soon angrily flew away in frustration with Instructor Phoros' unwillingness to strike back at the Magmas, resolving to deal with them himself. However, while not looking where he was going, ended up falling into ruins within a chasm, where he soon met the exiled Cosmo Beast Fighter Tubahn.

Tubahn took on Regulos to train him in the Red Dragon Fist style during the nights while continuing his normal training during the daytime. Some time passed before Phoros caught on to what Regulos was doing after recognizing a technique he used in a training session to be that of his brother Tubahn. The two sibling sparred much to Regulos' confusion. With the knowledge of his experiences at D60, Regulos retired to a cave, meditating to come into commune with a Cosmo Beast, connecting with both the Red Dragon and White Tiger of his two instructors.

Suddenly, the Alien Magma launched yet another attack in revenge of their previous defeat, tageting the villagers until the Cosmo Beast Fighters arrived to challenge them. Spica was hurt during the battle, enraging Regulos and making him give in to his anger once more, causing him to slip up in his fight against Yurub and Lava, until he was rescued by his masters Phoros and Tubahn, who defeated the attacking aliens before they went to the tower where Alude was hiding, only to see Albeo and Pharood killed by Volcan. Regulos and Spica were ordered by the remaining two instructors to get to to Alude, but once they arrived, they found him dead with Dias dying next to him. Once again enraged, Regulos attacked Volcan, who launched a beam attack at Regulos to finish him off. Phoros and Tubahn got in the way to protect their student, and passed their Cosmo Beasts to him before dying.

While getting beaten by Volcan, Regulos conversed with the two Cosmo Beasts that his teachers had passed to him, and their signs engraved themselves onto his arms, granting him mastery of the Red Dragon White Tiger Fist, which he used to counterattack Volcan, piercing through his armor. In desperation, Volcan summoned a Baraba that he received from Yapool, who overwhelmed Regulos until the spirits of Albeo and Pharood produced a pair of orbs that went to Regulos and allowed him to use their powers to defeat Baraba. With Volcan cornered, he used his own poison to enhance his power, knowing that it would kill him afterwards, but did not mind as long as he could take Regulos down with him. Unfortunately for Volcan, Regulos was too strong and managed to defeat him with the Shadowless Red Dragon White Tiger Kick. before he died Volcan saw Regulos' fiery eyes, leading him to speculate that Regulos must be from 'that' planet.

In the aftermath, only Regulos and Spica were left. All of a sudden, Dias revealed himself to be still alive and killed Spica, who passed her power to Regulos. Dias transformed into his true form - Absolute Diavolo, and revealed all his plans, including his schemes with the Alien Magma and his killing of Alude to steal his Cosmo Buffalo, to Regulos. Overcome with anger, Regulos rushed at Diavolo to attack him only to be blasted by Absolute Tartarus, who had Regulos captured and chained in Narak to study the nature of Ultra Warriors in preparation of their upcoming feud with them. Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy

Regulos first appeared during Yullian's imprisonment in Narak after The Kingdom successfully captured her as part of their plan to take over the Land of Light, having been contained within the dimension for an unknown amount of time. After Absolute Tartarus left Narak through a portal, Yullian briefly attempted to follow him, before turning to find Regulos, who was restrained with several energy shackles to keep him in place. Shackled by chains made of energy, Regulos was approached by Yullian, who promptly identified his connection to the Cosmo Beast Style through the unique markings on his arms. Absolute Diavolo then barged in and interrupted Yullian healing Regulos, just to mock him.

Soon, Astra arrived and managed to track down Yullian, but was confronted by Diavolo. Regulos broke the chains that held him when Diavolo tried to kill Yullian. Before they left Regulos to battle Diavolo, Yullian told him not to fight with the anger in his heart, reminding him of what his master once said to him. Astra and Yullian ascended the Eldora Tower where Astra used his own body as a conduit for Sora to find so that she could open a dimensional rift for them to escape through. Diavolo interfered once again, but he was beaten back by Regulos. Despite all their hardships, the team managed to leave the Kingdom with both Yullian and Regulos, and their mission was a success.

After the rescue squad managed to escape, they arrived on Planet Blizzard pursued by the Absolutians and their forces, only for them to be met with a large gathering of Ultras. Leo, Astra and Regulos fought against Diavolo, overwhelming him using their Space Martial Arts. Regulos then unleashed the orbs containing the energy of the Cosmo Beast Style masters and gave them to Leo and Astra, combining their powers together to fire a beam that destroyed Diavolo.

At the climax of the battle, Absolute Tartarus was overwhelmed by Ultraman Zero with his new abilities. He decided to unleash his Absolute Maximum Destruction on the planet, but it was blocked by a barrier from Ultraman King, creating a wormhole from the impact. Ultraman Ribut created his own barrier to protect the other Ultras present, but he and Tartarus fell through the wormhole and into Ultraman Trigger's universe as a result.

Some time passed in peace and Zero continued to train with Regulos, in order to prepare for the coming of the Absolutians and their 'lord', with Regulos' status as a Parallel Isotope taken from the past making him younger then the Ultras he knew from years prior. Ultraman Regulos: First Mission

While still having no memories of his life prior to his arrival on D60, Regulos approached Andro Melos to potentially join the Galaxy Rescue Force. Upon hearing word that Sora had been taken captive, Regulos was informally inducted into the force and immediately sent to rescue her. Arriving on Planet Maijii, Regulos was met by the malevolent Alien Reiblood within the body of Reibatos, who summoned monsters to attack him. Backup soon arrived in the form of Ultraman Great, Ultraman Powered and the Ultra Force, who dealt with monsters while Regulos went in to save Sora, only to be confronted with a reconstructed Ultraman Shadow.

The two battled, with Regulos struggling to combat the robot while also keeping Sora protected. With the arrival of Ultraman Ribut taking care of the latter situation, Regulos was able to destroy the metallic martial artist with relative ease. His attention turned to Reiblood, overpowering him physically and destroying his new body with the help of the other Ultras, even though Reiblood's incorporeal form was able to flee. Following the successful mission, Regulos became officially instated into the Galaxy Rescue Force. Ultraman Regulos: First Mission

Trivia

  • In The Absolute Conspiracy, Regulos' silhouette reuses the image of Ultraseven.
  • His motif in the Cosmo Beast Style is a reference to the Chinese idiom, "the tiger and the dragon", referring to "two different elements that contrasts each other but interlinked at the same time".[9] Both animals are also used in the Feng Shui to describe the concept of yin and yang.[10]
  • When using the Flaming Red Dragon, the dragon has a combination of a higher pitched King Kong roar and Hedorah's cackling roar.
