Ultraman Real-Time Motion Capture Labo was a virtual attraction held in conjunction with the docomo Open House’22.

It was made available from January 17, 2022, with live performances held at specific timeslots on the 18th and 19th, while the exhibition continued into March.

Event

By using DOOR, a platform for virtual worlds, guests used virtual avatars to check out the exhibitions and performances made possible through NTT Docomo's VR streaming and real-time motion capture technology.

Ultraman Real-Time Motion Capture Labo

Blending real-time motion capture technology with NTT Docomo's XR Studio, the exhibition brought 3DCG characters to life and delivered experiences exclusive to virtual reality.

In this exhibit, the Virtual Hero, Ultraman Belial and Alien Baltan starred in half-hour live performances made possible through motion capture technology. In addition, guests could learn more about the technologies behind the performance.

VIRTUAL TOKYO Exhibition

VIRTUAL TOKYO is a virtual space mirroring Tokyo in the real world. It faced the threat of Kaiju from the Monster Graveyard, which was connected to the virtual world through a space-time distortion. In response, the Digital Security Branch of the SSSP's Science Center was established, developing the Virtual Hero to fight these monsters.

In this exhibit, a sightseeing tour of VIRTUAL TOKYO led by a robot guide is interrupted by the sudden appearance of Zetton. The Virtual Hero enters the virtual world and faces the kaiju before it can cause any further destruction. However, Zetton's might proves a challenge for the Virtual Hero, who almost gives in before he is saves by Ultraman, who appears in the nick of time. Together, the two heroes defeat Zetton once and for all.

Virtual Hero

The Virtual Hero is a giant hero avatar developed by the SSSP. Based on Ultraman's image, it is specially tuned to fight monsters that appear in VIRTUAL TOKYO, and its actions are controlled through a real world motion capture studio which is linked to the virtual world through a screen.

The Virtual Hero's human host/form is an unnamed man played by suit actor Hideyoshi Iwata.

Transformation

The unnamed man raises his hand in the air and a blue light flashes through a screen in the virtual world, from which the Virtual Hero appears.

Techniques
