Ultraman Decker Ultraman Series, created by Tsuburaya Productions in commemoration of Ultraman Dyna's 25th anniversary. It is a sequel to Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga.[1][2]
is the 32nd entry of theProduction

The titular hero of this series, Decker, not only inherits the appearance of Dyna but also incorporates avant-garde original design elements.[3]
This series is a sequel to Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga. Similar to its predecessor, which inherited elements from Ultraman Tiga, this series incorporates elements from Ultraman Dyna, which celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022. The main director is Masayoshi Takesue, who previously directed Ultraman R/B. The script series compositors is handled by Toshizo Nemoto and Junichiro Ashiki. The first promotional video was released on March 18, 2022, after the ending theme song of the film Ultraman Trigger: Episode Z, which was distributed in theaters through TSUBURAYA IMAGINATION. The production of the series was officially announced on March 31, 2022[2][1], and the staff list was revealed on May 12, 2022. As with the previous series, new plans for the project were showcased at an online event on June 16, 2022.
According to Takesue, he received the offer to serve as the main director of the series between late May and early June of 2021. By the time he joined the project, Tsuburaya Productions had already decided that the next installment would serve as a commemoration of the TDG (Tiga, Dyna, Gaia) anniversary. However, they made it clear that it did not have to be a direct sequel to Ultraman Trigger.[4]. Instead, they intended to carry over the setting, command room set, and equipment from the previous work, and were even open to the idea of creating a new GUTS-Select world within a "parallel universe."[5]
In the early stages of development, head writer Nemoto proposed that the series should strongly emphasize the theme of being the "10th installment in the New Generation Heroes series." While the team hoped to pay tribute to Ultraman Dyna, they also considered market trends related to the New Generation lineup and even explored the idea of including guest appearances by other New Generation heroes. However, after internal discussions, that proposal was ultimately rejected. The production team instead chose to focus fully on honoring Ultraman Dyna.[5]
One of the elements inherited from Dyna is the return of the main antagonist, "Sphere". However, the production team agreed that the goal was to create a new story that was not confined by the plot of Dyna. According to Nemoto, who contributed to the series' composition, the approach to writing this series was different from the homage used in Ultraman Trigger. While certain specific elements were referenced, the emphasis was on the series' themes, atmosphere, and overall feeling. Although the nominal hero, Ultraman Decker, visually pays homage to Dyna, the elements of the series actually lean away from relying on Dyna. Similar to Ultraman Trigger, the new story was rebuilt by injecting fresh elements into the foundation of key points from the previous work. Therefore, Decker’s design aimed to create something new while honoring Dyna, such as altering the position of the iconic Color Timer and incorporating a new chest pattern as part of the design innovation.[6][7][8]
Therefore, when creating Ultraman Decker, two key points were established: first, to avoid making it a "direct sequel" to Ultraman Trigger, and second, to pay tribute to Ultraman Dyna without creating a "New Generation Dyna."[4][7] This became the consensus of the planning team. Takesue also mentioned that the similarities between Decker and Dyna are limited to the part where Sphere attacks Earth. In terms of continuity with Trigger, while the defense team and organization from the previous series are inherited, Decker differentiates itself by positioning the defense team as a "combat-focused" unit, unlike the previous series' emphasis on an academic team focused on the investigation and analysis of ancient relics. This shift creates a contrast in nature.[4][7]

Building on the foundation set by Trigger, the reformed GUTS-Select in this series strengthens its image as a combat team.
Additionally, reflecting on the previous series, which featured six actors as members of GUTS-Select to emphasize the scale of the defense team, Takesue noted that having too many members made it difficult to give each one proper character development. As a result, this series reduced the main GUTS-Select roster to five members, with the aim of portraying each character more thoroughly. To compensate for the reduced sense of organizational scale, the series introduced more regular TPU personnel in supporting roles.[5]
In the battle scenes, unlike previous series that frequently featured Showa-era monsters, Ultraman Decker strives to feature entirely new monsters, consistent with its "new work" identity. Additionally, in celebration of 'Ultraseven''s 55th anniversary, Capsule Kaiju will also make an appearance in the series.
Regarding the series' main theme of "the future," Takesue described his impression of Trigger as "the past influencing the present, challenging the past," while this series is focused on "what should be done about the future" and "what will happen in the future." The story centers around Asahi Kanata and will depict the growth of characters with strong personalities as they move forward together. The series is primarily focused on how Kanata, after experiencing significant events, grows to become a member of GUTS-Select. In many ways, the series will serve as a typical "New Generation Heroes" series.[6] The first episode will likely tell the story of how the protagonist Kanata and his companions "fight" in this world.[4][9]
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic during the series' production, strict infection prevention measures were implemented. The setting, in which Sphere attacks Earth and prevents humanity from entering space, was designed to evoke a sense of despair that, to some extent, mirrors the changes and restrictions felt by people during the pandemic in the real world. Regarding the portrayal of the protagonist, Takesue did not want him to be depicted as a character trapped in despair or gloom. Therefore, Kanata is shaped as an active and positive character, someone who will lead the story forward. Additionally, "youthful vitality" is regarded as one of the core themes of the series.[4][8]
Filming for the main series began in November 2021, and it wrapped up in July 2022, along with the filming of the film Ultraman Decker Finale: Journey to Beyond.
Synopsis
The threat of monster attacks fades, and the Earth seems once again at peace. Humanity turns its eyes to the stars and heads to space, while its monster attack countermeasures continue to shrink.
It is in this new age when "Sphere", an invading swarm of mysterious floating space objects, begin to attack Earth. Humanity loses contact with space and becomes a lone star. Their attack throws our hero Kanata Asumi's peaceful life into chaos. Destruction spreads before his eyes and a giant monster appears. With no heed for his own safety, Kanata jumps in front of the enemy and transforms into Ultraman Decker.
"I gotta do it now!"
Having discovered the light of Decker within himself, Kanata pledges to protect humanity's daily life and joins the expert team GUTS-Select, newly reformed as an Anti-Sphere squad. As its newest member, Kanata and his young unseasoned team stand against these great enemies, together.[1][2]
