Ultraman Arc (ウルトラマンアーク, Urutoraman Āku) is the 34th entry of the Ultraman Series, created by Tsuburaya Productions.[1][2] It was first announced through a teaser trailer uploaded on April 5, 2024.

The series will be broadcasted and/or streamed simultaneously with English, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, Taiwanese Mandarin, Thai, Indonesian, and Vietnamese dubs, and with subtitles in those languages and Korean, Malay, Filipino, Latin, Portuguese, and Hindi.[1]

Synopsis

In a town called Hoshimoto City…

A giant object towers in Mt. Shishio. Named “Monohorn”, it is actually a kaiju’s horn stuck in the ground since an incident 16 years ago.

The incident when kaiju appeared simultaneously around the world was later named “K-Day.” Since then, the Global Defense Force (GDF) has been dealing with kaiju with force, while SKIP (Scientific Kaiju Investigation and Prevention center) works closely with the community in scientific investigations and evacuation guidance to prevent the occurrence and aggravation of kaiju disasters. SKIP has also been investigating the Monohorn, the horn of the galactic beast Monogelos, which appeared on K-Day.

Yuma, then only 7 years old, was camping with his parents in Mt. Shishio when Monogelos attacked, but somehow miraculously survived unhurt. This experience led him to pursue the path of kaiju biology research, and despite his traumatic past, he has not lost his “imagination” to dream. As a rookie investigator, Yuma joined SKIP and was assigned to the Hoshimoto City Branch.

Not long after, another large-scale kaiju disaster occurs. As Yuma sees the desperate people in front of him, a strong will springs into his mind — “I want to protect them!” It was at that moment when Yuma hears the voice of Rution, the being of light that he once saw as a child:

“You and I are one and the same… Unleash your imagination!”

When the mystic light emerging from Yuma’s hand embodies his entire body, his power of imagination fuses him with the light and he transforms into Ultraman Arc, the Giant of Light who protects the future! Alongside his precious friends, Yuma, as well as Ultraman Arc, gallops towards his everlasting dream![1][2]

Trivia

  • Unlike the previous two series, Ultraman Arc was not announced in a post-credits teaser for Ultraman Blazar The Movie: Tokyo Kaiju Showdown. Instead, like most series that came before, it was first announced through a teaser trailer uploaded to YouTube on April 5, 2024.
  • The show appears to take some visual cues from Return of Ultraman, notably the logo font and rotary background lights, influenced from director Takanori Tsujimoto's love for Return of Ultraman.
    • When director Tsujimoto appeared on Miki Mizuno's YouTube channel to discuss the series, he clearly stated that Return of Ultraman inspired the title sequence. To maintain the same shooting style as the Showa Ultraman series, they chose live-action filming instead of CGI compositing, creating it by placing beads on a rotating table, illuminating them with lights, and filming the rotating beads while adjusting the camera focus to create the blur effect. However, this process placed some pressure on the on-set staff, as they felt that spending more time on this aspect of the production was somewhat burdensome.[30]
  • Previews of the series were shown at the end of Ultraman New Generation Stars season 2 episodes from episode 11.
  • For the summer break, a compilation of episodes 1 to 4 (up until the debut of Solis Armor) was uploaded to the ULTRAMAN OFFICIAL YouTube channel and was made available to Japanese audiences from July 30 to August 9, 2024.[31]
