Ultra Heroes EXPO THE LIVE: Ultraman Z is a stage show that was held at Kanagawa Kenmin Hall in Yokohama and livestreamed online on May 4, 2021.

The show was originally scheduled to be performed in Yokohama on January 30, 2021 and at Yao Prism Hall in Osaka on February 13, 2021, but the former was delayed and the latter was cancelled due to COVID-19. Ticket refunds were provided for both performances. On April 3, more tickets for the Yokohama performance were offered. Following COVID-19 restrictions in Japan announced on April 5, ticket refunds were offered a second time during May.

From August 11, 2021, the show was made available on TSUBURAYA IMAGINATION and as a DVD sold exclusively at Ultra Heroes EXPO 2021 Summer Festival. The DVD later had a general release alongside Ultra Heroes EXPO 2021 Battle Stage on September 8, 2021.

Synopsis

The show opened with a short voice drama episode titled First Mission , where Ultraman Z, Rosso and Blu meet.

The first part is called Part 1. "Move Out! First Inter Galactic Defense Force Mission!" and takes place before Ultraman Z and Ultra Galaxy Fight: The Absolute Conspiracy. It tells the story of how Ultraman Z and Ultraman Geed first met, involving the mysterious reappearance of Ultraman Belial.

The second part is called Part 2. "Space Fortress Interception Operation!" and takes place after Ultraman Z. The Ultras defend Earth from a scheme devised by the Alien Bat from the previous part.

Trivia

• Two promotional campaigns were held in the lead up to the stage show:
  • By spending at least ¥2000 at certain stores, purchasers could draw lots to obtain a voucher for either a shikishi board with Kohshu Hirano's autograph, or an exclusive sticker. The voucher could only be exchanged at the show's venue.
  • From January 30, visitors of Kaiju Sakaba and Kaiju Sakaba Shimbashi Distillery could earn a coaster with Ultraman Belial on it. By bringing the coaster to the venue, guests would earn an exclusive sticker.
• The first part of the stage show is potentially canon to the core Ultraman Series due to Ultraman Z mentioning his first fight with Zero was on Planet Loin in Ultraman New Generation Stars season 3, episode 1. The plot also has other references to continuity:
  • As this is Z's first mission as an Inter Galactic Defense Force member, it likely takes place after Ultraman Z & Ultraman Zero Voice Drama, as he joins the organization at the end of the series.
  • Geed and Z's first meeting is depicted, hence their familiarity in Ultraman Z.
  • In the end of the first part, Geed heads to Planet Ain to stop Gillvalis, with Hikari mentioning he is willing to help him with his science anytime if he needs it, referencing the events of episode 6 of Ultraman Z where Geed's Riser is damaged after fighting Gillvalis and so Hikari sends him a Z Riser.
  • The origin of Z's "chant my name" catchphrase is revealed: After the battle, Z, better understanding the significance of the Ultraman title, wants to become an admirable hero whom many people "chant" his name.
  • Additionally, the first part of the previous year's major theater-based stage show, Ultra Heroes EXPO THE LIVE, is also considered canon in a similar way.
• The voice drama is considered a special episode of Ultraman Z & Zero Voice Drama by the Ultraman Z Perfect Super Complete Works. Its title card has the same style but says Ultraman Z Voice Drama instead as Zero does not appear, and is labeled as a "special episode" .
• A voice drama episode was also shown during NEW GENERATION THE LIVE: Ultraman Decker STAGE 3 in 2022, but unlike this one, was not included in the livestream or its archive.
