Overview[]

The Ultra Hawk No.2 is a rocket-shaped space combat craft capable of flying at speeds of up to Mach 5. Its primary mission is to support the UG in combat against alien invaders in space and to conduct personnel rescue operations.[1][2] It can also dock with Space Station V3.

The structure of this mecha includes a central area covered with a metal that absorbs solar heat, which is then converted into electricity and stored in large solar cells within the craft. Below the front section of the solar cells is a solar energy absorption panel, which converts the stored solar energy into power. Although the craft can carry up to four crew members, it only has two seats.[3]

Regarding its main propulsion, Ultra Hawk No.2 is equipped with a nuclear-powered ion rocket propulsion system. It can fly using jet engines within the atmosphere and relies on ion propulsion in space. The craft is capable of vertical landing and can also take off directly from the base to exit the atmosphere. The mecha is armed with weapons, including a laser cannon mounted at the bow.[1]

Ultra Hawk No.2 launch.

In the series, the hangar and launch port for Ultra Hawk No.2 are located within the TDF Far East Base, specifically beneath the forward section of the aircraft catapult used by Ultra Hawk No.1, inside the Futago Mountain. For takeoff, the Mecha is launched in a vertical position with its nose facing upward.

This mecha was once stolen by a Alien Pitt who had been detained by the UG and was used to escape from the base. Among its notable achievements, the mecha successfully destroyed the flying saucers of the Alien Icarus and Alien Prote.

In Episode 48, while Dan Moroboshi was piloting the mecha on a space patrol, it was shot down by a flying saucer belonging to the Alien Ghose. Although Dan survived the attack, the mecha was destroyed due to a massive explosion.

Early designs of Ultra Hawk No. 2.[4]

  • The Ultra Hawk No. 2 was designed by Tohl Narita, who initially created an early design and a scale model. The main differences between this early design and the existing version include solar panels surrounding the cockpit area and distinct structural features such as the main rocket located at the rear.[5]
  • It was the only Ultra Hawk machine that never appeared in Heisei Ultraseven.
  • Currently, only one filming model of the Ultra Hawk No.2 remains preserved. This model is 140 centimeters long, making it a large-scale version. Compared to other models, there are notable differences, such as among the three sub-rockets—only the rocket on the cockpit side lacks the central dark blue stripe. The red lines on the fuselage are not directly painted; instead, metal lines were painted red and then attached. However, some red lines are hand-drawn, while the stabilizer wings are fully painted. Additionally, some structural components are positioned differently.[6][7]
  • In the old archives, there is a 90 cm model of the Ultra Hawk No. 2, which is considered an NG (No Good) type. This model features a shorter length of the accordion-like black and white two-tone section on the main body. Additionally, a laser cannon is equipped next to the nose antenna.[8]
