Having spent all his energy in the battle with Chaos Darkness on the moon, Cosmos has disappeared. In this hopeless situation, the monsters seem to plead something who Chaos Darkness. Musashi realizes the truth. Even Chaos Header has a heart!
Producer Hiroyasu Shibuya reflected, "Musashi, who first met Ultraman in his childhood and made a promise to become a 'True Hero,' continues to pursue his 'dreams' on his journey. Despite facing occasional setbacks, he ultimately experiences significant growth. All of this is possible thanks to the support of his EYES teammates, the monsters, and of course, Cosmos. [...] Musashi uses the 'true power of love' to successfully change the Chaos Header, an entity that even Cosmos could not alter, resolving its inner hatred and sorrow. This symbolizes that Musashi has surpassed his mentor, Cosmos- he has truly become a 'True Hero.'"[2]
In the scene where Cosmos and Musashi part, his suit actor was Hiroshi Nekomata, who had portrayed the Ultra up to episode 23 before tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during filming and having to withdraw from the series. He was specially invited to return, as the scene reflects Cosmos's original encounter with Musashi in The First Contact, where he first played the character. This was in spite of him being unable to walk due to his injury, and he was deeply moved and cried due to the act.[3][4]
The decision for Chaos Header not be defeated was initially met with opposition from MBS producer Yoshihiko Marutani. However, when the reasoning was explained by referencing the final episode of Ginga Hyōryū Vifam, a series Marutani had worked on, he understood and approved.
Footage of the shoot for the battle between Cosmos and Chaos Darkness was taken by a BBC television crew and featured in the first episode of the 2002 documentary series Japanorama, which focuses on Japanese culture and media. In addition to the production footage, the episode includes a feature on the wider Ultraman Series, and an interview between host Jonathan Ross - an avid fan of the series - and Kazuho Mitsuta.[5]
This episode was later featured in Ultraman Retsuden episode 34 "A True Hero! His Name Is Musashi!!"
