Trivia[]
- According to Keiichi Hasegawa, the first draft of the script for this episode was completed before episode 36. As the two stories had similar themes, he reused certain elements in episode 36, which inspired this episode’s storyline.[2]
- Regarding the concept of Karen E-90, Hasegawa said that he wanted to create a female character with a sense of ""duality," inspired by Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Originally, Karen’s 'bug' was intended to be a flaw, but she also possessed a gentle side, something Yazumi would later come to understand.
- This episode underwent multiple revisions and rewrites. The initial concept was an abstract story similar to Solaris or Zardoz, but it was ultimately abandoned as it proved too obscure and difficult for audiences to grasp. In that version, the story would have involved a journey to another planet.
- Hasegawa also developed a script with a similar title that was ultimately unused: "Town Where Napoleon Disappeared" . According to Risaku Kiridoshi, the story centred on a boy with severe autism named Satoru.[3]
- Satoru, a boy with severe autism, is mostly unresponsive, but he draws Ultraman fighting a monster. Napoleon, a semi-organic medical robot created by Dr. Kazuma, tries to help Satoru but fails. Frustrated, he transforms into a giant robot, declaring, "One hero is enough, me!" and fights Tiga. The children cheer only for Tiga.
- As Napoleon is defeated, he hears Satoru say, "You fought for me, didn’t you?" Though lying in scrap, a bright star shines above, noticed only by Satoru. In his drawing, Napoleon defeats the monster. To Satoru, Napoleon was the true hero.
