Trivia[]
- According to Chiaki J. Konaka, the initial storyline for this episode revolved around "Yoshioka staging a coup" and "Antarctica declaring independence." The episode’s original title was derived from the early draft’s setting in Antarctica, but due to the challenges of filming such a location, the setting was changed to an uninhabited southern island.
- Regarding Yoshioka as the protagonist of this episode, Konaka explained that Yoshioka was not part of the original series concepts; he was a character that Konaka himself created. Konaka wanted to express the idea that peace is built on a precarious balance of danger. Over time, it became clear that the audience had grown fond of Yoshioka, so Konaka decided to give him a major role in this episode.[2]
- Director Hirochika Muraishi recalled that she wanted to try creating a formal story centered on Yoshioka, and that she aimed to depict his character through his interactions with Sawai. The most challenging part of the production was the Desimonia, as they were not suits but props, and when not in motion, they simply appeared as static objects.
- Additionally, the production required fifty foreign actors, but due to budget constraints, the same group of actors was used in different costumes to portray both the people in the news footage and the audience in the scenes.
- The battle location featured in this episode, the Cliomos Islands, would later reappear in Ultraman Tiga & Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light.
