Trivia[]
- In a 2023 joint interview, Kiyotaka Taguchi and Keigo Koyanagi shared their fondness for Ultraman: Towards the Future and Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero. They were particularly drawn to the unique atmosphere of "Japanese stories unfolding overseas," which gave those series a subtle sense of realism.
- The Dada variant introduced in this episode, designated "PDO-3," was named as a playful nod to its origins. The "P" comes from Powered, referencing Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero's Japanese title, a reference to the original series—and "3DO," the game console .
- Koyanagi recalled how, during the 1990s when both series aired, electronics stores often had demo units for Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero on 3DO consoles. When planning to include a Powered-inspired Dada in the episode, Taguchi wanted to distinguish it from the original and decided to give it a slightly different name. During a lighthearted conversation with Koyanagi, the name "PDO-3" was born.
- Compared to the original Powered Dada, PDO-3 features a larger head and a more slender body. The suit used for PDO-3 is, in fact, the original costume from Ultraman: The Ultimate Hero, which had been shipped back to Japan after filming in the United States and has been preserved in near-original condition. However, the original head mold no longer exists.[2]
- Although the suit appeared to be in decent shape externally, long-term storage had caused material shrinkage, raising concerns over whether anyone could still fit into it. Fortunately, a slim stunt performer was available during production, and the suit fit perfectly—making PDO-3's comeback possible.[3]
- During Ultraman Trigger, the production team considered recreating the original Powered Dada head for the character's return. In the end, they opted to craft a new mask based more closely on Mahiro Maeda's original design sketches.
