Trivia[]
- According to Masakazu Migita, the story of this episode was based on an idea by Kazuo Tsuburaya, who proposed a storyline where Hirao, an observatory staff member, discovers a new star, and a girl from the new star comes to Earth. Therefore, at the beginning of the episode, Teruhisa Hirao's monologue about searching for a supernova was added.[1]
- In the original concept, it was set that Hirao was childhood friends with Ryo. When Migita was writing the script, he wanted to use this relationship to overlap the girl's story with Ryo's childhood.[1]
- The director of this episode, Masaki Harada, set Matsumoto City as the main setting because he lived there when he was young. Migita believes that the director may have incorporated some of his own first love experiences into the plot of this episode.[1]
- According to Masaki Harada's 2000 interview:[2]
- The theme melody of "The Power of Missing You" in this episode is based on a reworked version of Can't Help Falling in Love.
- When discussing the relationship between Ryo and her childhood friend, Hirao, Harada clearly stated that theirs was not a romantic relationship. During the filming of their interactions, he never intended to convey any romantic elements. While it’s possible that Hirao harbored special feelings for Ryo, she did not share the same sentiment. In the scene where they reminisce about their childhood, Hirao does not recognize Ryo as the girl he once knew, but Ryo immediately recognizes Hirao. This setup particularly resonates with the simple, ambiguous emotions of childhood.
