Ultraman Wiki

The Land's Ultimate Monster (地上最大の怪獣, Chijō Saidai no Kaijū) is the sixth episode of Ultraman Dyna.

Synopsis[]

Suddenly, a massive mushroom with a will emerged from underground, declaring the extermination of humanity. Its mycelium penetrated deep into the depths of computer networks, rendering Super GUTS unable to establish an effective defense. Then Asuka encountered the mastermind behind the incident, who had taken on a monstrous form, revealing a terrifying scheme!

Plot[]

The episode begins as a guard is patrolling a building in the dead of night. As he passes a computer, the screen flashes with the words "Goodbye" (さよなら, Sayonara) before decaying into "Humans" (人類, Jinrui). Suddenly, several gigantic stalks burst out of the ground and wrap amongst each other while spreading out across the city.

Meanwhile, during a recon mission in outer space, Asuka flies at three times the stipulated speed. Hibiki is not pleased and, once they arrive back at headquarters, fires Asuka on the spot in an explosion of anger, This, however, is short-lived and Asuka is immediately brought back by Hibiki to deploy to Furuizumi City in order to investigate the gigantic object that had suddenly appeared the prior night,

During Asuka's search, he is captured by Fohgus in its human form. At the same time, Fohgus had infiltrated the TPC headquarters and launched missiles form the Europe branch towards Grandome; in a plan to make humanity declare war upon each other. This plan is stopped when two of the missiles are destroyed by Kohda in Clarkov NF-3000, and the last by Ryo in Gamma. Fohgus tries to convince Asuka to stop siding with the humans - claiming that they have reached the end to evolution. Asuka adamantly refuses. Following all of its previous plans being foiled, Fohgus summons many of its battle form avatars. On their own, each unit is very weak and are easily dispatched by Ultraman Dyna. However, their ability to be summoned repeatedly and numerously was a large threat. To combat this, Dyna transforms into Miracle Type. Using his telekinetic abilities, the Ultra locates Fohgus' true form and destroys it using the Shining Judge and Solgent Beam.

Later that evening, Super GUTS are seen commemorating the victory with matsutake mushrooms.

Trivia[]

'"`UNIQ--ref-00000002-QINU`"'

[1]

  • This episode marks the first appearance of the Clarkov NF-3000.
  • According to screenwriter Junki Takegami, the concept for this episode was inspired by an article he read about a massive mushroom colony discovered in a Canadian forest. The colony's mycelial network functioned similarly to neural cells, allowing it to transmit information across a certain range. This idea led him to incorporate similar biological traits into the story, envisioning Fohgus as a creature akin to a "giant brain."[2]
    • The draft depicted Fohgus controlling the entire city's population through mental domination. However, to keep the narrative more concise, the story was streamlined.
  • According to director Tsugumi Kitaura, various techniques were employed to enhance Fohgus' visual effects. These included composite static imagery and dual-camera recording, with CG processing used for panning to add depth to the visuals. One of the most challenging aspects of production was the scene where Fohgus rises. To ensure both a sense of presence and smooth transitions, the team dedicated significant effort to refining this sequence.
    • The episode's visual tone shifts between two distinct styles: the first half emphasizes an eerie, unsettling atmosphere, while the latter half transitions into intense action, highlighting Fohgus' battle with Dyna.
    • As for Tatsumi Nikamoto's security guard character, he was initially a minor, incidental role without any deeper significance. However, in episode 46 "The Power of Thinking of You," it was established that he had unexpectedly survived the events of this episode.
