The Flute Playing Witch (笛を吹く魔女, Fue o Fuku Majo) is the thirteenth episode of Mirrorman.

Synopsis[]

Kyotaro suspects a mysterious woman playing a flute of being an Invader. He reports her to SGM and also asks to join, but Dr. Mitarai refuses to allow him to become a member. SGM and Kyotaro begin to investigate separately, while Kyotaro struggles to accept Mitarai's verdict.

Plot[]

A mysterious woman is dropped off by an Invader Spaceship. While driving, Kyotaro encounters a woman in the road playing the flute. She does not move out of the way, so he gets out, but she transports herself to various locations and disappears. Kyotaro, suspecting that she is an Invader, reports her to SGM. They suspect that the Invaders are trying to thwart a UN scientific conference about to be underway to counter their invasion. Kyotaro volunteers to assist in investigating, but Dr. Mitarai sternly tells him that he is not a member of SGM and to do his own job as a photojournalist.

Meanwhile, Asako is rehearsing for her band performance which will be the opening act for the anti-Invader conference. While reporting on the conference, Kyotaro notices that one of the band members is playing the same flute as the woman on the road. He asks Asako about her, but she assures him that the girl, Junko Masamoto, is a perfectly nice and normal student and tells him to leave. Kyotaro remains in hiding.

Junko asks Asako to come to her house. Kyotaro comes out of hiding and asks Asako to observe Junko. Asako is reluctant at first, but when Kyotaro explains the situation to her, she agrees. When Asako goes to Junko's home, Kyotaro follows and waits for her.

Inside, Junko tells Asako to wait while she makes coffee. Asako begins to explore the room, and notices that her fish have died and her clock is unwound. She opens a wardrobe and finds the dead bodies of Junko's parents. At that moment, the mysterious woman enters and telepathically knocks Asako unconscious. She places a small device in her ear and begins playing her flute. Asako arises and goes out to Kyotaro, who asks if anything was suspicious about Junko, and Asako denies it.

Kyotaro returns home with her and she goes to bed while he knocks on the door of Dr. Mitarai's office. Inside, he asks Dr. Mitarai if he can join SGM in order to fulfill his mission as Mirrorman. Telling him that he lacks the spiritual stamina to be an SGM member due to his selfishness and tendency to do things alone, Dr. Mitarai refuses. Kyotaro begins to protest, but Yuki enters with the plans for the conference. Outside the door, Asako is listening.

While thinking over Dr. Mitarai's words in his room, Kyotaro hears the flute playing and sees Noah outside the window. He slips out and sees Asako enter Dr. Mitarai's office and steal the plans for the conference. He follows her to Noah's location, briefly wondering whether he should tell Dr. Mitarai but dismissing the idea, thinking himself sufficient. Noah is surrounded by all the band members whom she has hypnotized. Giving them bombs, she explains that they are to break into the conference room where the scientists are and kill them, ridding the earth of the those with the knowledge and expertise to resist the Invaders.

Kyotaro breaks in and tells Noah that he will not let her accomplish her plan. But she overpowers him and the hypnotized girls attack and capture him.

The next day, Kyotaro wakes up, bound to a cross. Noah tells him that the girls are about to perform their duty and kill the scientists, and that she will kill him at the same time. The band begins the opening ceremony as the scientists proceed to the conference room. Kyotaro manages to escape his bonds, but Noah transforms, destroying the building. Kyotaro also transforms. The two fight. Kyotaro is nearly overpowered, but when he realizes that 10:30, the time when the girls will kill the scientists, has struck, he manages to use the Silver Cross to defeat Noah.

Noah is defeated, but the band girls, still hypnotized, storm the conference, breaking through the guards. However, when they reach the planned room, it is empty. SGM enters and restrains them, removing the mind control devices: Dr. Mitarai had become aware of the plan, and they had switched the rooms the scientists would be in. When her device is removed, Asako passes out.

Afterwards, Kyotaro goes to Asako as she wakes up. He then enters the SGM main room. He tells Dr. Mitarai that he has realized he is not yet fit to join SGM, but that he will continue trying to improve. The SGM members all encourage him to continue building himself up. Kyotaro leaves quickly, and as the door shuts after him, begins to cry.
