The Encounter of Light and Darkness (光と闇の邂逅, Hikari to Yami no Kaigō) is the eleventh episode of Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga.

Synopsis[]

The Giants of Darkness begin their fierce attack! Carmeara drives Trigger into a corner and uses a spell to engulf him in darkness. Kengo resists with all his might, but then! A rift in space-time appears, and Kengo is flung back to the past. Now he finds himself 30 million years prior in an ultra-ancient era?!

Plot[]

Beginning in medias res, Ultraman Trigger is locked in battle against Carmeara, who quickly overpowers him, then uses a new power, her Curse of Darkness, to restrain Trigger with a chain made of dark energy, rapidly draining his reserves. All of a sudden, Kengo Manaka attempts to use every inch of his energy to fire Trigger's Zeperion Beam at the darkness above him, but is expelled from Trigger's body. He attempts to grab the Sparklence, but is dragged through a golden portal.

GUTS-Select attempts to stop Carmeara, but she summons Darrgon and Hudram, who keep them at bay until Trigger's energy reserves are completely depleted, and his Color Timer stops. Carmeara and the other Giants of Darkness approach Trigger's unconscious body, as Carmeara states that she had been waiting for this moment for over 30 million years.

Awakening in the Ultra-Ancient Era, Kengo finds the Giants of Darkness attacking an ancient civilisation, having found the location of the Eternity Core. Trigger Dark, the Dark Champion and fourth member of the Giants of Darkness, immediately spots him and begins attempting to kill him with his Dark Zeperion Beam, but Yuzare arrives and intervenes, shielding him from the energy. The duo attempt to flee, but are cornered at the edge of a cliff by the Giants of Darkness. When Trigger Dark attempted to grab him, Kengo raised his hands, firing a mysterious pulse of white light from them that briefly forced Trigger back. There, Kengo attempted to convince Trigger that he was in fact a Giant of Light whose mission was to make everyone smile.

Using this as a distraction, the two jumped off the cliff, landing in a forest far below. Trigger Dark gazed at his hand for a moment, contemplating what he had been told, while Carmeara chided him for letting the humans escape, and Darrgon contemplated the nature of the mysterious light. Hudram then informed the others that he had located the Eternity Core's chamber's gate, and that they needed Yuzare to open it so they could reach the core itself.

At the foot of the cliff, Yuzare informed Kengo of the nature of the Eternity Core, and its potential to completely reshape the universe by starting a second Big Bang. Suddenly, Trigger Dark reappeared, and abducted Yuzare, taking her to where the others had assembled next to the Eternity Core's chamber's gate.

In the present day, Yuna and Akito searched for Kengo, and arrived to witness Trigger's body pulsing with dark energy. Trigger's energy levels began to spike, but he remained unconscious. Akito then found Kengo's Sparklence in a pile of rubble, and realised that something was horribly wrong.

After Trigger Dark set Yuzare down atop an altar, she asked Carmeara if this was what she really wanted. Carmeara confirmed this, stating that obtaining the Eternity Core was 'our greatest wish', then forced Yuzare to open the gate. Yuzare warned Carmeara that taking the Eternity Core would have grave consequences for the universe, and that it could result in not only the extinction of all life, but the very destruction of the universe itself, but Carmeara dismissed this threat, and demanded that Trigger Dark execute her. Though Yuzare managed to defend with her shield, she was blown several metres away. Carmeara then led the Ancient Ultras through the portal just as Kengo arrived.

Injured but still alive, Yuzare called Kengo R'lyeh, her language's word for 'Hope', then presented Kengo with an ancient version of the Sparklence. He then ran through the portal to confront the Dark Giants. Meanwhile, Trigger's unexpected revival was continuing, but he became engulfed in a cloud of darkness as he stood upright.

Carmeara and the other Giants of Darkness beheld the Eternity Core. Darrgon and Hudram were excited to obtain its power, but Carmeara told the latter to back off, proclaiming that Trigger Dark should be the first to receive energy from the device, much to Hudram's protests. Embracing him, Carmeara told Trigger Dark to 'claim the power to rule the universe', and he followed this command, standing before the Core. As he attempted to touch it, Kengo suddenly appeared, and activated the Sparklence, bonding with Trigger Dark, but he saw Trigger Dark within the Inner Space instead of Trigger’s present form. The effects of the curse had concluded, and Trigger's transformation was complete.

Emitting a bellowing scream, Trigger Dark immediately began releasing vast amounts of energy inherited from the Eternity Core, manifesting as bolts of Dark Zeperion rays that raked the ground and triggered massive explosions. Carmeara looked on from a nearby parking garage, and ecstatically welcomed him back to the present day. Every step Trigger took shook the ground as he began to rampage through the city. On the ground, Akito called out Kengo's name, inadvertently revealing that he knew his comrade's identity as Trigger's host to Yuna.

Inside the Inner Space, Kengo attempted to reason with Trigger Dark, asking him to lend him the strength to protect everyone, but Trigger Dark immediately went on the offensive, punching him in the head and chest. Realising that the Dark Giant was beyond any reasoning, Kengo attempted to fight Trigger Dark hand-to-hand, but the Ultra clearly held the upper hand. Kengo called out Trigger's name, who grabbed his fist and began grappling with him.
