The Determination of Agul (アグルの決意, Aguru no Ketsui) is the twenty-fourth epidode of Ultraman Gaia.

Synopsis[]

Fujimiya steals data on monster locations and then uses Agul’s power to rouse them, leading to a battle between Gaia and Zonnel in Arizona in the United States.

Plot[]

Fujimiya attacked Geo Base headquarters with Agul's power, knocking down all security personnel in the building. This assault caught XIG's attention and Gamu. As he succeeded in getting into the main computer room, Fujimiya downloaded all the data about Earth's monsters' locations while he was reminded about Inamori's death in his own hands (presumably motivated by the fact that Inamori tried the same thing Fujimiya believed but led it to her demise). As the download process was completed and another security force charged toward where Fujimiya was, he transformed into Agul and flew toward the locations he downloaded, making Kajio and Gamu's effort to stop his action useless as they were already late.

Fujimiya infiltrate Geo Base

XIG and Geo Base learned that Fujimiya stole all abnormal phenomena on earth, leading toward the exact point of the location where the monsters were dwelling. As a first action, Agul awoke a monster in Scottsdale, Arizona, U.S.A. by charging Awakening Impact to the land where the monster resided, caught the attention of people who reside in the mountain doing campfire.

As Gamu still wonders whether Fujimiya is correct about his belief, he concludes that perhaps Fujimiya has already given up controlling monsters, so he would let them go rampage by themselves. On the other side, Agul flew toward Grey Mountain Range in Australia, triggering South Pacific Fighter Forces to attack him as he potentially could cause harm, but their effort was useless. His news about reappearing in Zimbabwe after Australia where he got away again from GUARD spread over the world, and caught Reiko, Kajio, and Gamu's attention. Meanwhile, Reiko tailed both of them to find Fujimiya too. With the same goal, the three of them decided to go together to find Fujimiya.

Responding to the threat caused by Agul, XIG decided to stop the resurrection of monsters further by launching team Falcon and Crow to go to Northern Kyushu and Chichibu Mountains, wary that those two locations were potential spots for Agul to come. On the ground, Fujimiya and a boy from Chichibu Hospital noted the stars were looking strange without a known cause, but Fujimiya seemed to know what was about to happen as he noted there was no time. He transforms again into Agul, alerting team Crow and XIG to attack him, while Kajio, Gamu, and Reiko stay on the ground to find Fujimiya. Though Crow managed to launch a continuous attack toward Agul, the blue giant still succeeded in charging Awakening Impact to the land where the monster resided. With his energy and health drained too much, Agul reverted to his human form.

On the ground, the trio searched Fujimiya in the middle of the forest. With Gamu and Reiko first found him, Gamu questioned his belief in the Crisis prediction and his feelings about Inamori's death. Kajio who noticed Fujimiya quickly aimed his gun toward him, but Reiko tried to stop Kajio from hurting or killing Fujimiya further, as she saw there was no point in humans resolving problems by hatred. As they conflicted, Fujimiya collapsed from exhaustion.

Agul use Awakening Impact

Agul/Fujimiya finished his second awakening-monster mission.

The first effect of awakening caused Zonnel II to emerge from underground in Arizona. XIG decided to launch Team Crow to stop the monsters as the giant already wiped out 90% of the tank platoon from GUARD. Kajio also returned to Aerial Base to prepare for the upcoming battle, leaving Gamu and Reiko to take Fujimiya to the hospital. As they arrived at the hospital, Gamu noticed the battle in Arizona from the news and the words from the boy who believed that Ultraman would protect humans. Realizing that every coincidental event in his recent life has a meaning behind it, including his gaining Gaia power, Gamu left Fujimiya to Reiko to be taken care of by her and went to Arizona to fight against Zonnel II.

Upon waking, Fujimiya said, "It is humanity's foolishness that is leading Earth to destruction," and attempted to escape from the hospital to confront Gaia because he was interfering with his action who supported Earth's will that want to eradicate humans (based on his belief) even though Gaia knows it. However, Reiko, who had been saved by Fujimiya in the past, asked him, "If that is the case, then why do you help these foolish humans?" She tried to persuade Fujimiya, hoping to change his inability to be completely ruthless, though failed because Fujimiya resolved once more to save only the earth. At this moment, the monster "Geel II," revived by Agul the previous night, awoke and appeared near the hospital where Fujimiya was located. Patients hurriedly fled the hospital. Fujimiya showed indifference to the fleeing patients, much to Reiko's annoyance and anger. But, when he heard a boy’s cry for help, hoping that Ultraman would come to assist, Fujimiya stopped. The boy, holding a drawing of Gaia and Agul shaking hands, pleaded for help from his favorite Ultraman. Seeing the boy’s earnest plea, Fujimiya was moved and questioned the role of Ultraman on earth. He transformed into Agul (still injured and exhausted due to draining much energy and health from the previous night), and, alongside Team Lightning, launched an attack using the Photon Crusher to defeat Geel II. Fujimiya again failed to be completely ruthless, though his mindset remained unchanged. He decided to go on his own and leave Reiko.

While Gaia still struggled to fight Zonnel II, he decided to launch photon edge. But, he reminded words from Reiko that resolving problems by force could lead to nothing. Realizing that this monster is just an innocent animal that gets awakened by force, Gaia decides to calm the monster to send it back to his habitat.

Gaia let Zonnel go

Gaia let Zonnel go back to his habitat

Back in the hospital, Gamu noticed that Fujimiya was no longer in the hospital, leaving him questioning Fujimiya's location and getting angered little toward his previous actions that caused widespread harm. Back in the base, XIG got data from GUARD Europe that they already noticed all locations of dormant earth monsters. Attempting to stop potential harm in the future, GUARD decided to launch high-energy missile bombs toward the monsters to confine them, much to the relief and reluctance of XIG members. Earth monsters 'crying' sounds were heard upon this assault.

Trivia[]

  • This is the second episode that Gaia fights in a different country, which was the United States.
  • It was hinted that Zonnel II and Geel II were awoken by Fujimiya as a part of his plan to fight the arrival of Zoruim by using monsters from Earth. This was shown in the episode when Fujimiya looked to the sky, seeing stars moving strangely or warping and saying, "there's no more time." Another clue was what Fujimiya said to Gamu, "It's too late. I was planning to invoke all of the monsters before he got here." The Showdown for Tomorrow
