Trivia[]
- In this episode's opening, Zog destroys a group of Dobishi, helps Gaia and Agul regain their energy, then attacks them. Special effects director Kazuo Sagawa said the original script had Zog attack immediately upon arrival, but he felt it lacked suspense and added a plot twist. He also thought Fujimiya's gentle nature made him easily deceived, which led to the scene where Agul is lured toward Zog.[2]
- Originally, the series was meant to end with this "current episode," but the script was revised. The first seven scenes of episode 51 were rewritten and included in this episode.[3]
- Keiichi Hasegawa focused on telling the story of Gamu's three friends based on ideas from Chiaki J. Konaka, then returned the script to Konaka. To evoke an apocalyptic mood, since Ultraman Tiga already showed a burning city, they chose to slowly turn the city into a dead zone, highlighting the theme of an impending apocalypse.
- The concept of "Earth monsters rising together against the Radical Destruction Bringer" came from Chiaki J. Konaka early in the series' first season. He shared this plan with the writing team during script meetings.
- Because the Toho Built special effects studio was too small to show all the Earth monsters fighting together in one scene, Konaka split the battles across multiple global locations. He drew inspiration from the 1968 film Destroy All Monsters and jokingly called "The Cry of the Earth" a "Heisei Destroy All Monsters."
- This episode was later featured in New Ultraman Retsuden episode 42 "Lost Light! Cry of the Earth."[4]
