Trivia[]
The final draft script of "Confined Area"
- While being drafted, the script was initially called "Confined Area" before the final title was chosen.
- Filming took place at Yomiuriland, located in Inagi, Tokyo, and Tama Ward, Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture.
- This episode presents Mayumi's boyfriend, Takuma Aoki.
- In the original script, Gagi was meant to trap Tiga inside a barrier that would cause him great pain. Tiga was also planned to appear in his Sky Type form, but these ideas were dropped from the final version.
- Screenwriter Hideyuki Kawakami said he had sent about ten different ideas of possible stories before filming began. His usual process began with defining the monster's traits, then building the story around them. Shingo Matsubara and the director talked about how ideas like childhood bullying and the strong relationship between Shinjoh and Mayumi could be connected to create the episode's message.[2]
- Director Matsubara saw Ultraman as a show that focuses on being simple and easy to understand. He tried to make this episode easy to understand and fun to watch, using a setting that felt comfortable and looked interesting. He also asked for a full-scale model for some scenes. The outdoor photo shoot at Yomiuriland was originally planned to take two days, but it ended up taking four days.
- In the 4Kids English dub, this episode and episode 24 were both heavily edited and combined into one episode, resulting in over 13 minutes of footage being removed from the dub. Furthermore, this was also the last episode to be aired on American television, with Tiga having been removed from the FoxBox block the following week due to low ratings.
