The Birth of Agul (アグル誕生, Aguru Tanjō) is the sixteenth episode of Ultraman Gaia.

Synopsis[]

His first meeting with Agul comes back to haunt Hiroya, and the origins in his opposing perspective to Gamu's becomes clear.

Plot[]

Four huge metal spikes appear in space, entering Earth. XIG sends Team Lightning to counter the unknown object that is identified as similar to Apatee. As they are about to approach each other, a blue light clashes with the spikes, causing those spikes to land on Earth, and the blue light is revealed as Agul.

The metal spikes transformed into another metal organism called Alguros. The fight between the Ultra and the creature is equal, as Agul lands the first blow and Alguros shoots a cannon toward Agul, causing him to be injured. Team Lightning assists the blue Ultra. But, Agul wastes no time to destroy Alguros by continuously launching Liquidators toward the metal organism, exploding it but at the same time almost causing harm to Team Lightning. Injured and drained of too much energy, Agul retreats.

Gamu, curious about why Fujimiya/Agul became frantic in the fight, searched all places that were close to the battle area. He found one building, Pronon Calamos. This made him clear about the reason and he headed toward the place.

Flashback to 4 years ago, Fujimiya and his Alchemy Stars team, including Inamori as his advisor, were designing a light quantum computer called "Crisis". This supercomputer could predict disasters that were about to occur on Earth. They finally completed the final sync of Crisis development. But, the celebration came short as Crisis suddenly became out of control. As everyone tries to figure out the cause, Fujimiya suddenly gets electrocuted and shows a brief vision of a blue giant towering in the middle of a mysterious place. Not long after that, he collapsed.

After he awakens, Fujimiya and everyone on the team are shown by Crisis a statement "In the near future, the Bringer of Destruction will come, causing the destruction of earth and mankind". Shocked by the statement, all teams including Fujimiya reviewed all category data from Crisis that led to the statement. After numerous attempts, however, one day, Fujimiya tried to eliminate the variable 'humanity' from the data of Earth's existence and began calculations. As a result, the destruction of Earth was avoided. The reason for Earth's destruction was humanity itself. Fujimiya was puzzled about the result. He commanded the team to do more to check whether there was a bug in the system. As Fujimiya was still confused and struggled, the word "AGUL" suddenly appeared on the terminal screen. Then the screen emitted a light, and Fujimiya saw the figure of a blue giant standing in a mysterious place.

After one year of Crisis review, Fujimiya gave up his effort and quit the Alchemy Stars. He decided to use Pronon Calamos to spend his remaining time doing research. During the same time, he met a boy named Gamu Takayama introduced by Daniel.

Back in the present time, Gamu approaches Dr. Inamori and Lily, Fujimiya's pet, in the Pronon Calamos. Inamori explained her reason for that place was to know the truth about Fujimiya's prediction for the earth's future and its will. She also tells the stories of her time with Fujimiya in the Pronon Calamos doing research.

Flashback to the time when Fujimiya started his research in Pronon Calamos, Fujimiya called Inamori to be his partner and brought Lily to the lab. Inamori wondered why Fujimiya did not call a member from Alchemy Stars and he responded that they couldn't comprehend his intentions to uncover Earth's will. He explained that the lab was already installed with sensors that pointed toward underground. Fujimiya intended to correlate the earth with a natural being that has healing power so he would know the true will of the earth. As the research continued progressing for months, Inamori started to doubt and was not fully convinced of what Fujimiya said about whether Earth would communicate with humans or not and whether humans would be capable of comprehending Earth's feelings.

As Fujimiya started to get frustrated, he came to the water tank that connected with the underground tunnels. He tried to communicate again with Agul. This time, Agul responded to his call by showing a vision of Agul's surroundings. This time, it's a wasteland with buildings destroyed and the land becomes deserts. He finally understands what Agul said and Crisis statement.

Rushing back to the lab, he tried to disconnect all cables from all instruments to stop the observation, much to Inamori's shock. Fujimiya explained his belief that the Earth possesses a "natural healing power" that activates when living organisms become sick, and if the Earth were truly destroyed, this power would also come into play. Fujimiya realized that "if humanity's crisis is its destiny, then the only way out for humanity is to follow the will of the Earth. The power of Agul will guide us there." He believed that if rebirth was to occur, it would be better to eliminate any hindrances. He also considered it selfish for humans to seek help only when they are in danger. Inamori concluded that he was scared and he confirmed that if he did more research, he would discover more bad news for humanity. Inamori convinced him to keep going as throwing away any possibilities would be pathetic.

Suddenly, Fujimiya and Inamori noticed that sensors read something from the underground. As they turn on the monitor, a swarm of blue lights emerge from the water tank. They realized it was the earth's will. Inamori analyzed the light, while Fujimiya checked the water tank to see the light with his own eyes. As he arrived at the water tank, the light flew into Fujimiya. He seemed to vanish from in front of Inamori after being exposed to the light. Inamori cried as she watched from a monitor that the blue light engulfed him and he disappeared. The light bestowed upon him the power of Ultraman Agul. Since then, Inamori has continued to do the research alone.

Back in the present time, Fujimiya who is still in pain due to the previous fight, went to Pronon Calamos and jumped into the water tank. At the same time, Alguros is revealed to be still alive. Fujimiya reminded and concluded that he and Agul's fate is the cataclysm of the earth as humanity's extinction is an inevitable fate and humans could only follow the earth's will. Agul responded to Fujimiya by giving him his power once again. This caused sensors from the lab to alert Gamu and Inamori. They watched the event from the water tank via the monitor. Inamori is shocked to see Fujimiya again, while Gamu understands how Fujimiya gain Agul's light. Suddenly, a quake occurred and rubbles hit Inamori, causing her to fall unconscious. As Gamu comes outside to see what caused the quake, he sees Alguros revived and transformed from spikes into its humanoid form.

Agul re-emerged to protect the lab. This time, the two of them fought again. As they delivered punches to each other, Alguros transformed into Imit Ultraman Agul, much to Agul's shock. After Agul suffers many blows, Gamu decides to call upon Gaia but is halted by Agul. Suddenly, the blue giant spun into the air and crashed upon the fake. Then he rained the imitation with many blows but was halted when Alguros launched Liquidators at him. Undeterred, Agul and the imitation had a duel of Photon Crushers. But Agul was more powerful and destroyed the fake easily as his power increased.

Transforming back into humans, Fujimiya confronted Gamu to clarify that he fought to protect the sacred spot of Agul. Fujimiya also responded to Gamu's invitation to fight with him by saying that humanity is too self-centered to stand at the pinnacle of nature and would let Earth abandon humans if they were destroyed by Radical Destruction Bringer. As Fujimiya sees Inamori, he's relieved that she's okay and smiles a bit. But when she looked at him, his smile instantly faded and he just walked away.
