Tarantula (タランチュラ Taranchura) was a giant spider kaiju from episode 9 of Ultra Q.
Subtitle: Large Spider (大ぐも Ō Gumo)
History
Ultra Q
A natural giant found by zoologists, Tarantula was taken from its home and placed in a cottage by the ocean. One night inside of the cottage, the two zoologists went to check on their new discovery. However, when one of them went up into the attic Tarantula appeared out of nowhere and started to attack.
After the venom killed the first security zoologist, the other one attempted to flee in terror from Tarantula only to be caught from its webbing and to have the same demise. Later that night six people took shelter in the cottage not knowing of the creature inside of it. As one of them were about to fall asleep in a room he saw Baron Spider on the ceiling staring back at him with his glowing eyes, but after he fled no one believed his story. When one of them went down to the cottage's wine cellar in the basement Tarantula attacked him.
With his screaming, the others save for one that was sick, went to look for him. Little did they know that the giant was preying on the sick man after they had left with a second Baron Spider waiting for them in the basement. After the one in the living room was quickly killed off with a knife to the throat, the other Tarantula chased the others outside and through the swamp back to their cars. After Tarantula was ran over it slowly died just as the cottage was starting to collapse and was set ablaze, ending the story of the large spider.
Trivia
- Tarantula is one of the monsters that makes up Belyudra's body in Mega Monster Battle: Ultra Galaxy Legends The Movie.
- To avoid being burnt, the actors that got sprayed in the face with the spider's webbing (actually hot melted styrofoam) wore fireproof nylon over the tops of their heads, as evidenced by their hair being unusually flat in some scenes.
