Take Me Higher HD

[1]

  • According to Chiaki J. Konaka, because this episode focuses on Daigo and Rena's relationship, director Masaki Harada asked him to write dialogue that more clearly expressed their emotions. However, Konaka found this challenging. He felt that adding unnecessary lines would weaken the scene. Since it was their first time working together, Harada didn't push him too hard.[2]
    • In an early version of the script, Konaka used the show's opening theme, "TAKE ME HIGHER," in an important scene. He was worried the director might not like it. When producer Yoshihiko Marutani read the script, he said, "This script is a bit crazy." But Harada said that if it were his own project, he would've used the song even more. Konaka later said that the chorus—especially the repeated line "Take Me, Take Me Higher"—really stayed in his mind.[3]
    • For emotional scenes like a confession, the usual choice would be tearful, sentimental music—but Konaka wanted to avoid that. He believed that as a modern series, Ultraman Tiga could use the upbeat energy of "TAKE ME HIGHER" even in a heartfelt moment. He even asked Harada to time the scene around the song's instrumental break. At one point, Marutani jokingly compared him to screenwriter So Kuramoto."[4]
  • In this episode, Daigo and Rena's placement in the Snow White's cockpit during their confession mirrors a scene from the first episode, "Inheritance of Light." The Snow White ultimately lands on the Mongolian grasslands while chasing Zoiger—the same location where Golza first appeared.
  • Harada also added scenes that weren't in the script—such as Rena, sitting helmetless in the cockpit and gazing upward, and Daigo doing the same in his room. He said that while filming Rena, he suddenly thought, "I want to show her waiting." Wanting to give her a quiet, introspective moment, he first filmed Yoshimoto's scene, then shot Nagano's at the same time.
  • The transformation scene, where Rena's face is superimposed over Tiga flying, reused footage from episode 9.
  • In the original script for the scene on the plains, Rena just waited for Daigo to come back. When Daigo said, "I'm back," Rena answered, "Welcome back." That was all they said. Harada wanted to add more to the scene, but Konaka and Masato Oida wanted to keep it simple.[5]
  • During the final filming, Harada had Rena quietly mouth the words "Look this way" as Daigo walked toward her. He told Yoshimoto, "This is the kind of feeling I want," but since there was no sound recording, only her lips move in the final version.
  • In the Ultraman Tiga 25th Anniversary Testimony, Takeshi Yagi shared some behind-the-scenes stories. One story was about a paper cup Rena holds in the scene. Harada suddenly asked for it during rehearsal, and the crew quickly found one. Harada often made choices after watching the actors, and at that moment, he felt the cup was a good detail to add.[6]
    • The final scene was filmed in a grassy field in Urayasu. To help the actors focus, the crew stayed far away. Harada quietly rehearsed the scene with Nagano, Yoshimoto, and assistant director Yagi, who also used the clapperboard. They talked about the close feelings between Daigo and Rena, which led to the idea of Daigo's helmet falling off.

In the preview for this episode (shown at the end of episode 49), Rena says a line that doesn't appear in the actual episode: "I know, Daigo is Tiga." Harada added this line to help Yoshimoto show more emotion during her acting.
    • However, Konaka didn't know about this extra line. The next day, he called producer Masato Oida and asked, "What's going on?" Oida didn't know either, so he asked assistant director Shigenori Shogase. Shogase explained, "Harada added that line just to help with the acting. It won't be in the final episode."
