During his tenure at TBS, Kakoi made significant contributions to television production. In 1964, while Unbalance, a sci-fi mystery series by Tsuburaya Productions, was in the planning stages, Kakoi boldly suggested a change in direction.[2] He remarked, “Since we've already brought Eiji Tsuburaya on board, it would be better to focus on a kaiju theme.” This decisive shift led to the transformation of the show into Ultra Q.[3][4]
Following this change, Ultra Q and its successor, Ultraman, sparked a widespread kaiju boom, laying the groundwork for the Ultraman series.[5][6][7]
In 2019, Kakoi participated in an interview for ULTRAMAN ARCHIVES, where he provided valuable testimonies and records regarding the production of Ultra Q and Ultraman.[8]
Death[]
On the morning of August 29, 2024, Takashi Kakoi passed away at the age of 96.[9][10][11]
