TV Tokyo Tsuburaya Productions' Ultraman Series in Japan and participates in the production of the New Generation Heroes series.
is a terrestrial television station serving the Kantō region of Japan. It is the flagship station of the TXN network, one of Japan's five major television networks. TV Tokyo currently serves as the primary broadcaster forHistory[]
TV Tokyo's predecessor was Tokyo Channel 12, which initially broadcast using frequency bandwidth returned by the U.S. military stationed in Japan. In 1969, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Nikkei) took over management of Tokyo Channel 12, officially transforming it into a general television station in 1973.
In 1981, Tokyo Channel 12 was renamed TV Tokyo. Since its inception, TV Tokyo has consistently ranked last among the core Tokyo-based broadcasters in viewership ratings, and its program production budgets have been significantly lower than those of its competitors. Additionally, the TXN network does not cover the entire country, making it considerably smaller in scale compared to the other four major national networks. However, these disadvantages allowed TV Tokyo to develop a distinctive programming and news style, notably specializing in fields such as anime broadcasting.
In the lead-up to the release of Mega Monster Battle Ultra Galaxy: The Movie, both seasons of Mega Monster Battle were rebroadcast on TV Tokyo on every weekly Thursday 5:30pm as part of its Anime 530 prgromming timeslot. Since 2011, TV Tokyo has collaborated with Tsuburaya Productions. Starting with Ultraman Retsuden, the station primarily aired re-edited compilations, reruns of past series, special features, and serialized broadcasts of films and videos. As new original productions were developed, TV Tokyo also began airing new entries in the New Generation Heroes series, making it the broadcaster with the longest continuous run of Ultraman programming to date. During Retsuden airing, its timeslot changed numerous times from Wednesdays 6:00pm to Wednesdays 5:30pm to Tuesdays 6:00pm. In the lead up to the airing of Ultraman Orb, the timeslot changed for a final time to Saturdays 9:00am where it has continued to remain as an Ultra Series-only timelot.
Currently, Tsuburaya Productions' Ultraman Series is broadcast simultaneously across TV Tokyo's six affiliated stations.
