Special Summary 1: Cosmos's Greatest Crisis(特別総集編1 コスモス最大の危機, Tokubetsu Sōshūhen Ichi: Kosumosu Saidai no Kiki) is the first special episode of Ultraman Cosmos.
This episode was one of two stopgap installments produced after the temporary suspension of Ultraman Cosmos in 2002, which followed an investigation of the lead actor, Taiyo Sugiura. When it first aired, all scenes featuring his character, Musashi Haruno, were removed.
EYES has successfully cultivated the Chaos Chimera, the only and decisive countermeasure against the Chaos Header. However, the Chaos Header targets the research facility, and Chaos Ultraman's attack on the facility begins.
Cosmos stands ready to fight, but despite their best efforts, Chaos Ultraman powers up and acquires a new form and with it, incredible amounts of strength. How will EYES and Cosmos manage to survive this critical situation?

At the beginning of the episode, Cosmos explains why Musashi is absent from the story.
Following Taiyo Sugiura's arrest, the show faced a broadcasting crisis. Tsuburaya Productions feared that if the issue wasn't resolved quickly, they wouldn't be able to conclude the storylines. This would have effectively canceled the series just before its conclusion, disappointing longtime fans, especially the children who had been following it.[2]
To address the issue, the production team created two special recap episodes as a temporary measure while the legal case remained unresolved. Unlike the original version, these episodes shifted the focus to the EYES team and showed events from their perspective.
This episode was compiled from episodes 59 and 60, and was then re-edited to focus on Chaos Ultraman's upgrades and the evolution of the Chaos Chimera. However, Mazalgas, who originally triggered the discovery of the Chaos Chimera, is not mentioned in this version.
