SingapoReimagineシンガポール・リイマジン ULTRAMANウルトラマン (Shingapōru Riimajin Urutoraman) is a collaboration project between the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Tsuburaya Productions meant to commemorate the 55th anniversary of Singapore-Japan diplomatic relations (SJ55) and the Ultraman Series, held between June 2021 and December 2022.[1][2]

The aim of the collaboration project is to bridge the gap between both countries amid the travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic using the iconic Hero of Light, Ultraman, as the ambassador of amicable relations.

History[]

On June 1st 2021, a press event featuring the original Ultraman unveiled key details and visuals for the SingapoReimagine ULTRAMAN project.[3] On the same day, Tsuburaya Productions published news articles on both their Japanese and English websites, highlighting information on the project.[1][2] The SJ55 official website was updated shortly thereafter.[4]

On December 5th 2021, travel news site Travel Watch reported on the Ultraman: A New Power of Singapore three-part miniseries that would broadcast exclusively on Tsuburaya Productions' official YouTube channel from December 7th onwards, which would be directed by tokusatsu veteran Kiyotaka Taguchi, the man behind popular works such as Ultraman Z and Ultraman Orb.[5]

On December 7th, the first episode of the miniseries was uploaded to YouTube, revealing actress Hikari Kuroki of Ultraman Z fame to be part of its cast.[6] In addition, Tsuburaya Productions released more details on the miniseries on their website and teased for more projects to come.[7][8]

Since March 2022, up-and-coming Singaporean artists have painted Ultraman murals in the streets of Singapore.[9][10]

On March 31th 2022, Gurihiru revealed they were in charge of designing key visuals for the campaign.[11] Their art was used for a free Singapore tourism guidebook and posters, which were both available at Ultra Heroes EXPO New Generation World in 2022, as well as merchandise, including tote bags and shirts, sold in Japan and Singapore.[12][13]

On April 12th 2021, a media event titled SingapoReimagine ULTRAMAN: Travel Again. Singapore (SingapoReimagine ULTRAMAN ふたたび、旅へ。シンガポール, Shingapōru Riimajin Urutoraman Futatabi, Tabi e.
