Shinji Higuchi
is a Japanese director, producer, and special skill director.Biography[]
When Higuchi was in junior high school, he often went to Dongbao Studio to study on-site and observe film shooting. Later, in his third year of high school, he began to assist in the production of Special Skill works such as Bye bye Jupiter and Zero as an observer.
In 1984, Higuchi entered the Japanese film industry and served as an assistant stylist for The Return of Godzilla. Two years later, he was in charge of the special feature director for the feature film "Yamata no Orochi no Gyakushū" by the amateur team DAICON FILM. Therefore, he maintained a close relationship with Hideaki Anno and served as the assistant director of Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise. He became a key person in the establishment of DAICON FILM/Gainax.
In 1992, Higuchi made his debut as a film director with The Day the Sun Broken: The Great Tokyo Earthquake. From 1995 to 1999, he served as the special director of the Gamera: The Heisei Trilogy.
In recent years, his representative works are Attack on Titan (2015) and Shin Godzilla (2016). From 2019 to 2022, he directed the film Shin Ultraman.[1][2]
