Shin Matsudo (松戸 シン, Matsudo Shin) is one of the main characters of Ultraman Orb and a member of the SSP. He is the scientist of the group.

Personality[]

Shin possesses a lively and optimistic personality. He wears round glasses and often uses polite language when speaking. Despite being a highly knowledgeable individual within the SSP, he demonstrates a profound understanding of various fields such as cutting-edge physics, ancient civilization legends, and even medicine. He exhibits a great enthusiasm for inventing various devices and machinery in his daily life, while also displaying a keen analytical ability for technology and ancient literature.

However, at times, he displays behaviors that lack common sense, such as an excessive emphasis on cleanliness and being neurotic. Moreover, he often sleeps on the floor of his office, which frequently puzzles people due to its peculiar nature. Despite his frequent utilization of technological means for research and development, these actions are often criticized by Neomi as "wasting electricity," leaving a negative impression on others.

At the beginning of the series, he seemed to harbor a certain level of mistrust towards VTL, often remarking on their involvement in covert operations and their inclination to keep secrets. However, as the series unfolded, his relationship with Shibukawa, who works within the team, gradually became more harmonious.

History[]

The robot on Shin's desk is seen as a symbol of his pursuit of dreams.

Shin's childhood dream was to develop groundbreaking technological devices. He established three dreams for himself: first, to create a peacekeeping robot; second, to invent a time machine; and third, to become a veterinarian.

When he was seven years old, Shin participated as a contestant in an elementary school robotics competition, with Kofune serving as a judge. Unfortunately, Shin's robot creation did not receive favorable feedback from the judges, leaving him feeling discouraged and in tears. Witnessing this, Kofune offered him some advice and guidance, which led to his success in achieving a ranking the following year.

Afterwards, Shin frequently visited Kofune Manufacturing to interact and exchange ideas with Kofune, and the two became close friends. Kofune's advice and guidance played a significant role in Shin's personal growth and progress. Subsequently, Shin made the decision to continue striving towards his goals, resulting in numerous scientific achievements. Even during his elementary school years, he discovered the high-dimensional theorem of chaos theory.

During his middle school years, Shin even wrote a fan letter to Stephen Hawking and later received a response.

As an adult, Shin graduated from university at an accelerated pace and obtained a doctoral degree. However, after being somewhat coerced into joining SSP by his acquaintance Naomi, he made the decision to join the organization.

Ultraman Orb[]

When Shin and his friends first appeared, they were investigating peculiar weather patterns in the atmosphere and were saved by a mysterious giant. They were extremely excited about the existence of this giant afterward, but they didn't have concrete video evidence to prove its existence.

Later on, they encountered Jugglus Juggler, and through him, they learned that the giant's name was Ultraman Orb. Subsequently, they witnessed Orb's battle with Maga-Basser for the first time. After the battle, they had their initial encounter with Gai Kurenai. The Sunset Wanderer

As monsters began to appear one after another in the world, Shin actively utilized his new inventions to investigate these unexplained phenomena alongside the members of SSP. Through the archival records and partial intelligence from the Pacific Records, he obtained information about some of the monsters, often identifying the key factors that enabled Orb to defeat them.

However, when it came to the true identity of Ultraman Orb, Shin approached the matter from the perspective of the law of conservation of mass, refuting the notion that Orb was the result of "human transformation." Unlike Jetta, he did not actively pursue the truth behind Orb's origins.

After some time, Shin learned that Kofune and his employees were busy developing an escape device for VTL's Z-VTOL aircraft and continuously improving the spring design. Intrigued, Shin visited the factory to observe and offer his assistance. At the end of a day's work, Kofune invited him and the workers to enjoy stir-fried noodles and extended the invitation to his friends as well.

Shin has an ideal idea about the existence of Galactron.

However, suddenly, a peculiar robot landed in the factory yard. Naomi named this robot Galactron, and after Jetta's preliminary analysis, it was deemed to be a righteous robot. With the approval of VTL and Shibukawa, the workers at Kofune Manufacturing began analyzing Galactron as extensively as possible. Shin, on the other hand, held unknown aspirations for Galactron, believing that if it could be modified, it might become a helpful machine in assisting humans.

The next day, Galactron's sensors suddenly stopped working and then quickly regained power. It kidnapped Naomi and used her as a voice translator. Galactron launched an attack on the factory and headed towards the city. Shin and the members of SSP initiated a pursuit, while Gai speculated that Galactron might be a robot whose creator deemed it flawed and disposed of it without authorization.

Feeling guilty upon seeing the damaged factory, Shin questioned whether Kofune should take responsibility for it. However, Kofune assured him that everyone had done their part and it was not Shin's fault.Justice Out of Control

Later, when they witnessed Galactron wreaking havoc again in the countryside, everyone watched in terror as Galactron destroyed the Z-VTOL. However, Ultraman Orb transformed into Thunder Breaster and mercilessly annihilated Galactron. However, Naomi remained trapped inside the machine until Jetta's loud shout snapped Orb back to reality. However, as Galactron counterattacked and prepared for another assault, Orb had to swiftly retaliate and ultimately defeat Galactron, but it resulted in Naomi sustaining severe injuries and falling into a coma.

Shin fell into self-blame and doubts about Galactron's rampage, and Kofune enlightened him.

While Naomi received treatment at the hospital, Shin was deeply affected by the incident and expressed remorse, saying, "Science cannot bring about peace. It only creates rampaging monsters." He even contemplated that Galactron's idea of resetting the Earth's entire ecosystem might be correct. However, Kofune reminded him that "only humans can understand each other, even robots cannot." He illustrated the potential of humanity through examples of the food chain and scientific advancements that save lives. The phrase "Don't use your mind to see, use your heart to see" made Shin start to reconsider his own beliefs.

Not long after, a staff member of Kofune revealed some good news: the pilot of the crashed Z-VTOL at the disaster site had survived. He explained that their lives were saved thanks to the built-in safety system in the aircraft. This news brought a sense of elation to Shin and the entire company.Never Say Never

Despite public opinion portraying Orb as a threat and VTL designating Orb as a target, Shin's trust in Orb became uncertain. However, upon learning that Naomi continued to steadfastly believe in Orb's convictions, Shin began to grasp the crucial concept of "light and darkness coexisting within justice." With this realization, he successfully regained his trust in Orb. Through a live broadcast, they bore witness to Orb's transformation into Orb Origin and the moment when Orb protected them, ultimately restoring public trust in Orb. The activities of SSP also began to garner recognition and approval from the general population. The Holy Sword, Restored

As Magatano-Orochi was about to revive and threaten the world, Shin and Jetta went to the home of Mrs. Kishine, who had the original copy of the "Pacific Records," in an attempt to find clues to defeat Magatano-Orochi. They successfully obtained the original copy of the "Pacific Records," but as the monster disaster spread, they were caught in the aftermath and trapped under the rubble along with SSP-7 when they tried to leave. The Giga Lord Monster Strikes Back

In order to document their final words at the cost of their own lives, they used a camera to record their last messages. However, this act revealed the secret that the "Pacific Records" was a book of prophecies. Eventually, they were rescued by Shibukawa, who arrived at the scene. After successfully discovering a method to defeat Magatano-Orochi, they contacted VTL for assistance in the battle between Ultraman Orb, Jugglus Juggler, and Magatano-Orochi.

In the series finale, he, along with the members of SSP, witnessed Gai's departure. The Wandering Sun

With Earth restored to peace, the threat of the Lord Monsters had been eliminated. One day, the SSP unexpectedly obtained the "X Devizer" and made the acquaintance of Ultraman X. They also received news about the disappearance of a human named Daichi Oozora from another universe. Subsequently, without obtaining permission, the three of them began posting missing Daichi flyers around various locations in the city.

Nonetheless, they soon became the target of an alien army dispatched by Murnau, putting them in a desperate situation. Fortunately, they were saved by Gai's return. However, as they continued their search for Daichi, they ventured into Murnau's mansion and got lost inside while being attacked by Alien Guts. Along the way, with the assistance of Jugglus Juggler, they unexpectedly found Daichi and rescued Gai, who had also been kidnapped by Murnau.

When X and Orb were defeated by Darebolic, causing Orb to revert back to Gai's form, Shin discovered the truth that Orb's true identity was Gai. However, as Darebolic closed in on them, the members of SSP decided to protect Gai because he was already part of their team. They witnessed Ginga, Victory, and X passing on their power to Gai, enabling him to transform into Orb Trinity.

However, the members of SSP were immediately controlled by Alien Guts. Fortunately, with Shibukawa's timely arrival, they successfully defeated Alien Guts. The four of them, along with Jugglus Juggler, successfully threw the Dark Ring into the alternate dimension created by Bullton, restoring Ginga, Victory, and X to their original forms.

After the battle, Shin and the members of SSP bid farewell to Gai, who was about to embark on another journey.Ultraman Orb The Movie: Let Me Borrow the Power of Bonds!
