Samaji Nonagase (野長瀬 三摩地, Nonagase Samaji) is a Japanese director. His pen name is Ryu Minamikawa (南川 竜, Minamikawa Ryū).

Career[]

In 1946, Nonagase joined Toho after graduating from the Film Department of Nihon University College of Art. From then until 1964, he transferred to Toho Television as a TV director.

At the invitation of Eiji Tsuburaya, who reunited in Toho, he participated in Ultra Q produced by Tsuburaya as a director. After that, he got involved in many Tokusatsu works, and directed many episodes of the early Ultra series such as Ultraman and Ultraseven.

After leaving Toho in August 1982, he shot documentaries as a freelance director and also worked as a lecturer at Nihon University College of Art.

Death[]

On May 23, 1996, Nonagase passed away. Aged 72.'
