SKIP (Scientific Kaiju Investigation and Prevention center) [1] is a national research and development agency that specializes in developing predictive, preventive, and responsive measures to the occurrence of kaiju disasters.
Overview[]
SKIP is a national research and development agency dedicated to investigating and addressing issues related to kaiju. The organization’s responsibilities are extensive, encompassing on-site investigations of suspected kaiju sightings, assessing the damage and pollution caused by kaiju, and handling post-disaster recovery efforts. SKIP members respond flexibly to various situations, often working closely with police and fire departments to ensure comprehensive management of kaiju-related incidents.
Unlike the GDF, which primarily employs force to combat kaiju threats, SKIP focuses on scientific investigations and preventive measures. This includes conducting detailed studies on kaiju behavior, analyzing environmental impacts, and developing strategies to mitigate potential threats, with its arsenals are used for defensive actions, not dealing any physical damage towards kaiju like GDF's weapons. SKIP also collaborates with local communities to provide evacuation guidance and public safety education, ensuring residents are well-prepared in case of a kaiju emergency.
History[]
Ultraman Arc[]
Sixteen years ago, when kaiju began to frequently appear worldwide, Japan was struck by a catastrophic event known as "K-DAY," plunging the nation into a massive disaster. In response to the kaiju calamities, SKIP was established 10 years ago, with the primary goal of minimizing the damage caused by these kaiju disasters.
Recently, with the increasing frequency of disasters in Hoshimoto City, many previously undocumented kaijus have emerged. As a result, the SKIP branch located in Hoshimoto City has specially equipped several staff members with unique abilities to deal with these new threats.
Base[]
The headquarters of SKIP is located in Tokyo, but the organization operates several branches in regions frequently affected by kaiju activities.
Hoshimoto City Branch[]
The Hoshimoto City Branch
is located in Hoshimoto City, Japan. This branch primarily conducts its activities within the Hoshimoto City area. The office is located on the third floor of the New Hoshimoto Building
, a mixed-use facility situated in the heart of Hoshimoto City. The official address of the base is "1-13-09 Koguma Town , Hoshimoto City."For convenience, residents can utilize the "SKIP Kaiju Hotline
" by dialing 0783-7474, a number chosen for its mnemonic association with being "Trouble-Free."Fujiyama City Branch[]
The Fujiyama City Branch
is located in Fujiyama City, Japan. This branch primarily conducts its activities within the Fujiyama City area.In reality, some cities have gone long periods without any kaiju appearances. Fujiyama City, for instance, has only encountered two kaiju incidents in the past decade, with no actual damage resulting from them. This has led to a significant reduction in the resources and personnel allocated to the base, leaving it rather rudimentary. As it stands, the current Fujiyama City Branch is set up in a warehouse within the city.

Though he is generally a calm and logical elite who is always in a formal suit, whenever he has trouble obtaining a coffee, he gets flustered and becomes an entirely different person. Trivia[]
- In the office of the Hoshimoto City branch, there is a SKIP recruitment poster hanging on the wall featuring a photo of the series's director, Takanori Tsujimoto's pet dog, Mu-chan.
- According to the series director Takanori Tsujimoto, during the initial planning stages, Tsuburaya Productions made a request to avoid involving the Defense Force in the setting. Based on this request, Tsuburaya Productions suggested modeling the human organization in the series after the SRI from Operation: Mystery, leading to the concept of a "Kaiju version of SRI."[15]
