Revenge of the Fireflies (蛍の復讐, Hotaru no Fukushū) is the fifth episode of Ultraman Cosmos.

Plot[]

In Fubuki’s hometown, Hotarugamura, firefly-like lights attack vehicles, erasing them one after another. This mysterious light turned out to be the large amounts of metal illegally thrown away in the village that fused with Chaos Header. The lights eventually transform into a giant monster.

Trivia[]

  • According to producer Hiroyasu Shibuya, this episode can be considered the story of the birth of the ""Harukaze Combi" (春風コンビ, Harukaze Konbi, lit. "Spring Breeze Duo")." He mentioned that while there are some elements related to the Kanto region's folklore, the episode also addresses a still-serious issue in modern times—illegal dumping of garbage, and the monsters created by the chaotic alien creatures mixed in with the trash.[1]
  • The Chaos Bug was created by the storyboard team on set, marking their first-ever monster design. As for the monster's machine-like appearance, that was a request from Hirochika Muraishi.
  • The detail of Fubuki loving pudding wasn't initially planned; rather, it was a humorous addition by Director Ryuichi Ichino on set, which was eventually incorporated into the character's development.
  • This episode was featured in episode 147 of New Ultraman Retsuden, "Type Change Hero! Tiga and the Warriors of Light".[2]
