Renji Matsuo is a character in Ultraman Gaia. He is a member of Team Seagull.

Matsuo is a resident of Asakusa, Taito Ward, Tokyo. He used to be a caregiver, and because of his interest in rescue, he volunteered to join XIG. However, since he seems to lack experience in saving people, he is now also learning from Captain Koyama.
Because his grandfather was a bamboo craftsman, his operating ability is quite dexterous, and he often improves and maintains Team Seagull's rescue equipment in response to tasks.
During the first mission, he successfully rescued the citizen Pingchuan who got trapped in ruins. However, when he saw Pingchuan being interviewed by Reiko on the news, due to Pingchuan being unable to speak clearly due to injury, what he originally wanted to express: "Team Seagull's Matsui," was mistakenly interpreted by Reiko as "Tim Sigaru Matzo" and mistaken for an Italian.
