Upside-down rainbows are being sighted throughout Japan. They are said to herald the onset of rain. Gento suspects that a kaiju may be behind this and decides to visit Professor Yokomine, a leading kaijuologist and also his mentor from school.

Yokomine tells him about Nijikagachi, a god-like being that can at times bless the land with rain and at times summon utter destruction.

That's when Gento receives news about an appearance of a giant kaiju!

Trivia[]

  • This episode, along with episode 8, features the subtitle "Part 1/Part 2," marking the first time this format has been used in a television series since Ultraman Max aired its and episode 33 and 34, titled "Welcome! To the Earth: Part 1: The Science of the Planet Baltan" and "Welcome! To the Earth: Part 2: Farewell! Alien Baltan," in 2006.
  • According to Kazuhiro Nakagawa, the director of this episode, episodes 7 and 8 were planned by Kiyotaka Taguchi to feature a powerful mid-tier boss kaiju, with Gomora cited as an example. Since these episodes were structured as a two-part arc, the human drama also needed careful, detailed portrayal.[1]
  • In depicting the scene of the spring where Nijikagachi is sealed, Nakagawa aimed to create a transition from the ordinary to the extraordinary, akin to Alice in Wonderland. Finding an open mountain spring suitable for filming proved challenging, so the production team combined the slope where Yokomine rolls with an outdoor spring set to build the scene.[1]
  • The original plan for the battle sequence was for Ultraman Blazar and Nijikagachi to fight amid a typhoon; however, due to filming constraints, the battle was adjusted to take place within the eye of the storm.[1]

    • The battle between the two was intentionally designed to resemble a showdown between a sumo wrestler and a martial artist, highlighting contrasting combat styles. To smoothly transition into the storyline of episode 8, the episode’s ending features a distant shot of the mountain peak, emphasizing the dire situation at hand.[1]
  • In a roundtable discussion video featuring the main cast and director after the finale, Hayate Kajihara, who plays Yasunobu, recounted a scene where he is viewing a week-long reverse rainbow sent by Emi on a tablet. Director Kazuhiro Nakagawa instructed him, "Since the GoPro's wide-angle lens captures a broad view, feel free to get up close," prompting Yasunobu to approach the camera more eagerly than the other members. As a result, only Yasunobu was visible in the shot. This led Teruaki’s actor, Ito, to ask in confusion, "Are you joking around? Is this to lighten the mood on set?"[2][3]
  • The trailer of this episode was mistakenly uploaded early in Indonesia from RTV, a week before the official Japanese premiere, which contains a few scenes in this episode. A few hours later, the trailer was deleted until next week.
