Chryu News 07

Reported by Choryu News[1]

Upside-down rainbows are being sighted throughout Japan. They are said to herald the onset of rain. Gento suspects that a kaiju may be behind this and decides to visit Professor Yokomine, a leading kaijuologist and also his mentor from school.

Yokomine tells him about Nijikagachi, a god-like being that can at times bless the land with rain and at times summon utter destruction.

That's when Gento receives news about an appearance of a giant kaiju!

Trivia[]

Nijikagachi Blazar 003

[2][3]

  • This episode, along with the following episode, are the first Ultraman episodes to include Part 1 and Part 2 in their titles since Ultraman Max episode 34 "Welcome! To the Earth: Part 1: The Science of the Planet Baltan" and episode 35 "Welcome! To the Earth: Part 2: Farewell! Alien Baltan."
  • According to director Kazuhiro Nakagawa, episodes 7 and 8 were developed by Kiyotaka Taguchi to introduce a powerful mid-tier boss kaiju, similar to Gomora. Because the story was split across two episodes, the human drama also required deeper emotional focus.[4]
  • To depict the spring where Nijikagachi is sealed, Nakagawa wanted a transition from ordinary to extraordinary—similar to "Alice in Wonderland." Since finding a real mountain spring suitable for filming proved difficult, the scene combined a hillside where Yokomine rolls with an outdoor spring set.[4]
  • Originally, the battle between Ultraman Blazar and Nijikagachi was set during a typhoon. Due to filming limitations, the setting was changed to the eye of the storm.[4]
Teruaki Nagura 07 01
    • The fight was choreographed to evoke a contrast between a sumo wrestler and a martial artist, emphasizing their different fighting styles. To smoothly transition into episode 8, the ending shows a distant view of the mountain peak, reinforcing the looming threat.[4]
  • In a post-finale roundtable with the cast and director, Hayate Kajihara (Yasunobu) recalled a scene where his character watches a reverse rainbow from Emi on a tablet. Director Kazuhiro Nakagawa told him, "The GoPro's wide-angle lens picks up a lot—get close if you want." Kajihara took the suggestion literally and leaned in, making Yasunobu the only visible character in the shot. This prompted Ito (Teruaki's actor) to jokingly ask, "Are you being serious? Is this some kind of on-set gag?"[5][6]
  • The trailer of this episode was mistakenly uploaded early in Indonesia from RTV, a week before the official Japanese premiere, which contains a few scenes in this episode. A few hours later, the trailer was deleted until next week.
