Phoros , also known as Instructor Phoros , was the instructor of the Cosmo Beast Style.

Conception

Etymology

Unlike the other Cosmo Beast Fighters, Phoros is loosely based on the legends behind the Centaur constellation representing the mythical creatures of the same name. Phoros is possibly named after Pholus, a rare civilized centaur who aided the hero Heracles during one of his legendary labours. Phoros' role as an instructor also mirrors Chiron, the centaur who trained various Greek myth heroes including Heracles.

Design

As with all Cosmo Beast Fighters, Phoros is designed by Shoma Muto.

Personality

As an instructor, Phoros is extremely serious and respects the Cosmo Beast style more than anyone.

History

Ultraman Regulos

Phoros and his brother Tubahn learned the Cosmo Beast Style under their master, Alude. The two brothers were opposites in personality, but they always ended up in a draw during their spars against each other. When Phoros became an instructor himself, he expelled Tubahn for his wild and unruly nature, deeming him unfit to remain among the other Cosmo Beast Fighters.

Some time later, he watched over the outsider newcomers Ultraman Regulos and Dias when they arrived on Planet D60 as they also learned the Cosmo Beast Style alongside the other disciples. After fighting off the Alien Magma invasion along with the others, Phoros noticed Regulos was using a familiar fighting style and decided to follow him, learning that he was being trained by Tubahn to use the Flaming Red Dragon Fist, leading the brothers to clash out of their equal concern over Regulos.

When Volcan returned for a rematch, Phoros and Tubahn entered the fray to fight the Magmas, killing Yurub and Lava. They arrived too late to prevent Volcan from killing Albeo and Pharood, and both brothers fought Volcan to avenge their juniors' deaths, though they were pushed back. To protect Regulos from Volcan's attack, they both stood in the way of his beam, which killed them both. They passed their Cosmo Beasts to Regulos as a parting gift before they finally died. ^{Ultraman Regulos}

Trivia

• Phoros' seriousness contrasting Tubahn's free-spiritedness is a reference to the ancient concept of yin and yang being portrayed as the white tiger and the green dragon. The white tiger is said to represent yin (darkness) and has the traits of patient, calculating, lucky, courageous, adventurous and dramatic, some of which fits with Phoros' behavior.
