Oo-ze are a species of parasitic alien organisms who first appeared in Ultraman Arc.

Design

Oo-ze as sculpted by RIE.

Oo-ze's puppet prop was designed and sculpted by RIE. The prop is puppeteered via inserting the actor's hands into the glove-like structures of the body, and the tentacles on its head are animated using CG technique.

According to director Takanori Tsujimoto, the original plan was to make the kaiju smaller, but he didn't want to rely solely on CGI. He aimed to combine traditional digital and analog techniques to create effects that couldn't be achieved with just digital technology. The design of Oo-ze was inspired by the character Thing from The Addams Family movie. Tsujimoto asked the actor to perform actions with their hand and asked Nicklee, the compositing team, if CGI could be used for post-processing. After filming, Nicklee said that adding tentacle-like elements to the wrist could achieve the desired effect.

RIE mentioned that the production team wanted the kaiju's design to avoid a heavy, slime-like, or octopus shape, aiming for something more dynamic. Since the character needed to be portrayed with a hand, RIE wanted to create a design that didn't overly emphasize the hand shape but still maintained balance. No concept art was provided, just the character's appearance in the script as reference. Based on this, RIE began the design process. To express the hand movements, RIE personally crafted a model of the hand shape and wore gloves to sculpt it.

Since Oo-ze emerged from Shagon's body, RIE chose a reddish color with a blue tint to avoid it standing out too much. The surface details were designed to resemble internal blood vessels. The teeth on the back were added based on RIE's personal preference, while the teeth on the feet and abdomen were entirely black, suggesting the creature may have consumed something.

History

Ultraman Arc

An alien lifeform that parasitizes space Kaiju and ingests calcium carbonate as a source of nutrition, Oo-ze latched onto Monogelos and made its way to Earth. It is unknown how events transpired, but the Oo-ze presumably multiplied in numbers across the globe and fell into inactivity after the events of K-Day. One such Oo-ze remained in suspended animation in the Monohorn with small, sporadic signs of biological activity.

In the present day, the SKIP's Hoshimoto City branch responded to alerts of biological activity in the Monohorn, which awakened and revealed itself to be a Mother Oo-ze . With Yuma Hize in pursuit, it dug underground and took control of a Shagong, leading the Kaiju to feed on cavern limestones and grow rapidly in size due to the mother Oo-ze's hormone secretions. Craving for sustenance, it led Shagong to a chemical plant and began multiplying into smaller Oo-ze that threatened nearby workers.

With the situation getting out of hand, Yuma transformed into Ultraman Arc and dealt with Shagong. After the Kaiju was taken down by Arc's Arc Finalize, the Mother Oo-ze attempted to flee but was ultimately stopped short with one swing of the Arc Eye Sword. With the mother dead, its spawn ceased all activity.^{Arc to the Future}
