Naomi Yumeno is the leader/captain of SSP. She is Keiko Yumeno's daughter and Ittetsu Shibukawa's niece.
History[]
Pre-Ultraman Orb[]
Naomi in high school.
Naomi was born in Kobe and descends from both Natasha Romanova and the Yumeno family. Because the Yumeno line traditionally produces only female heirs, she is regarded as their direct successor. As a child, Naomi often dreamed of battles between Ultraman Orb and Maga-Zetton, which appeared to stem from ancestral memories. These recurring dreams drove her to uncover their meaning.
During high school, her closest friend was Yoko. Shortly before graduation, Yoko revealed that her father opposed her ambitions. Naomi encouraged her to pursue her own path, reminding her that only she could decide her future. This strengthened Yoko's resolve to follow her goals.
Near the end of university, Naomi befriended Jetta Hayami and Shin Matsudo. After graduating, the three founded SSP in Kitagawa-cho, Tokyo, to investigate mysterious events and search for the truth behind their dreams. To support their work, they published online reports about current affairs. However, with limited income and constant expenses such as office rent, Naomi took on several part-time jobs to keep the group running. She bore much of the financial burden while motivating the team.
Naomi's mother, Keiko, worried about her daughter's relentless pursuit of her ideals. She therefore asked her brother-in-law, Ittetsu Shibukawa—who also lived in Tokyo—to look out for her.
Ultraman Orb[]
After Naomi was rescued by Gai, she saw the existence of the monster, Maga-Basser, for the first time.
Naomi first appears while investigating unusual weather patterns with her friends. During the incident, she is saved by a mysterious giant who is later revealed to be Ultraman Orb, following a conversation with Jugglus Juggler. She encounters Juggler again, who remarks that he enjoys storms. After witnessing Orb's battle with Maga-Basser, Naomi returns Gai's harmonica after he introduces himself to her and her friends. The Sunset Wanderer
When reports emerge of buildings mysteriously sinking, Naomi enters one of the affected sites and sees Juggler in action. Though she tries to hide, Juggler finds her and attempts to kill her. Gai intervenes just in time to save her. Naomi questions their identities, but Juggler replies that some things are better left unknown. Gai brings her to safety as Juggler uses his Kaiju Cards to awaken Maga-Grand King. Naomi later regains consciousness and witnesses Orb confronting the monster once again. The Lord of Earth
Naomi, along with her friends and uncle, investigates monster sightings near a forest lake. She is chased by Maga-Jappa but rescued by Orb's timely arrival. Seeing Orb defeat a monster for the third time, she cheers as the battle ends. Later, during a trip to a hot spring, Naomi is accidentally struck in the face with soap. Monstrous Waters
While working a part-time job, Naomi complains to her friends about the summer heat. They begin investigating the abnormal weather and notice a second sun in the sky. She later sees Orb fighting to resolve the crisis and brings an injured Gai back to the SSP office to recover. Beware of Fire in the Midsummer Sky Naomi is then tricked by Alien Zetton Maddock into checking a reported monster sighting at a factory, where she is taken hostage. Gai arrives in time to rescue her from Hyper Zetton Deathscythe. After Orb defeats the monster, Naomi invites Gai to stay at the SSP office as an ally. A Heart That Won't Flee
As Naomi and Gai spend more time together, she begins to feel a special connection with him, drawn to his mysterious nature. However, she grows uneasy around Jugglus Juggler, whose unpredictability makes her increasingly wary. During a visit to Kofune Manufacturing, Naomi—disguised as a zookeeper—witnesses a robot landing in the factory yard. She names it Galactron, and after Jetta's analysis, it is identified as a robot built to uphold justice. With approval from VTL and Shibukawa, the factory workers begin examining Galactron.
Naomi is controlled by Galactron.
The next day, Galactron briefly shuts down before suddenly reactivating. It kidnaps Naomi, who is asleep in a vehicle, and uses her voice as a translator. Declaring, "Earth, like other worlds, shall be reset," Galactron begins a destructive rampage, claiming to eliminate conflict. Gai and the SSP organize a rescue mission, while Gai suspects that Galactron was abandoned as a defective creation. Justice Out of Control
As Ultraman Orb struggles against Galactron's assault, Gai—ignoring his injuries—transforms into Thunder Breastar to stop the rampage. Naomi remains trapped inside Galactron until Jetta's shout helps Orb regain control. Even so, Galactron launches another attack, forcing Orb to destroy it. Naomi survives but is critically injured and falls into a coma.
Naomi was seriously injured by the power of Thunder Breastar.
At the hospital, doctors fear she may never regain consciousness. Unexpectedly, she wakes and begins to recover. However, reports blaming Ultraman Orb for her injuries spread quickly, sparking public backlash. As a result, VTL declares Orb a threat. Feeling responsible, Gai leaves Naomi's side without saying a word. Never Say Never
While Naomi remains hospitalized, SSP members visit her frequently. She holds no resentment toward Orb. Through her mother, she learns that her ancestors were involved in the Rusalka explosion 108 years earlier. An Unforgettable Place
One night, while Gai was still missing, Juggler attempted to attack Naomi in her hospital room, but Gai arrived just in time to stop him. Later, while taking refuge at a rural facility, Naomi told Gai about her family history, including the story of her great-great-grandmother.
Naomi's bond with Gai resonates, driving Orb Origin's awakening.
Inside a set of inherited Russian nesting dolls, Gai discovered an old photo showing Natasha with him. Realizing that Naomi was Natasha's descendant—and that Natasha had survived the explosion—Gai embraced Naomi and thanked her. The moment restored his resolve, enabling him to face Zeppandon. During the battle, supported by Naomi's family song, Orb regained his Orb Origin form and defeated Zeppandon. Later, Naomi learned that Gai was Orb but chose to keep it secret, forming a silent understanding between them. The Holy Sword, Restored
Naomi later received news of her high school friend Yoko's upcoming wedding. At Yoko's bachelorette party, she was surprised to learn Yoko had quit her dream job and discovered her fiancé's hidden identity. Seeing Yoko's happiness stirred a brief feeling of envy in Naomi. Passing by the sealed monument of Gurenki, she made a wish. Sensing her jealousy, Gurenki awakened and briefly appeared in giant form before vanishing.
Naomi stops Gurenki's rampage.
Regretting her feelings, Naomi decided to stop Gurenki from ruining the wedding. The next day, when the creature approached the Koyasan Kogen Hotel, she confronted it as Ultraman Orb fought nearby. Naomi admitted her jealousy and reminded Gurenki of its role in granting wishes, especially those about love. Moved, Gurenki ceased its rampage, and Orb helped return it to rest. Afterward, Naomi reconciled with both Gurenki and Yoko. The Demon Inside of Me
Before the resurrection of Magatano-Orochi, Naomi dreamed again of Orb fighting Maga-Zetton. This time, as an explosion triggered a storm, someone carried her away—but she could not see who it was. Soon after, violent storms formed over Tokyo, and underground temperatures rose sharply. With Shibukawa's help, Naomi and Gai arrived at VTL headquarters, where they learned that VTL planned to launch the Spiner R1 missile to stop Magatano-Orochi's emergence.
Naomi was kidnapped by Juggler in the ruins.
Manipulated by Juggler, VTL approved the missile launch. The explosion instead fed energy into the storm, and a red flash signaled Magatano-Orochi's descent. After Orb's defeat, Naomi searched the disaster site for Gai. As she reached him, Juggler appeared and struck her unconscious with the Jashin Blade, vowing to show Gai "true hell." The Giga Lord Monster Strikes Back
Juggler takes Naomi hostage and confronts Gai.
Naomi survived and was used by Juggler as a hostage to lure Gai to a public square. Gai arrived under threat, worried for her safety. During their confrontation, he declared that "love" could shine through "darkness," which enraged Juggler. Naomi encouraged Gai, thanking him for their time together and asking him not to blame himself if anything happened to her.
As they spoke, a Z-VTOL was shot down by Magatano-Orochi and crashed nearby. In that moment, Naomi remembered the crescent-shaped red light on her rescuer's chest from her dream, realizing it had not been a dream but a memory from Natasha's past. Juggler carried her to safety, revealing he had been the one who saved Natasha. Believing there was still light in Juggler's heart, Gai entrusted Naomi to him before heading into the final battle. Juggler hesitated, torn by guilt, until Naomi thanked him for saving her. Encouraged, he joined Orb in the fight.
Naomi and Gai's farewell at sunset.
After the battle, Gai chose to leave Earth. Naomi had long suspected he was not of this world but never spoke of it, fearing his departure. When he finally left, she quietly accepted it, watching him go and believing they would meet again. The Wandering Sun
Ultraman Orb The Movie: Let Me Borrow the Power of Bonds![]
With Earth at peace and the Lord Monsters defeated, the SSP obtained the "X Devizer" and encountered Ultraman X. They soon learned that a man named Daichi Oozora had gone missing from another universe and began distributing missing-person flyers around the city without authorization. Shortly afterward, an alien force sent by Murnau targeted them, but Gai returned just in time to rescue the group.
Continuing their search, the SSP entered Murnau's mansion, where they became trapped and were attacked by Alien Guts. With help from Jugglus Juggler, they found Daichi and freed Gai, who had also been captured. When Orb and X were defeated by Darebolic, Orb reverted to Gai. As Darebolic advanced, the SSP shielded him, recognizing Gai as one of their own. They then witnessed Ginga, Victory, and X transferring their powers to Gai, enabling him to become Orb Trinity.
Although the SSP briefly fell under Alien Guts's control, they were rescued by Shibukawa. Working together with Juggler, they cast the Dark Ring into a dimensional void created by Bullton, restoring Ginga, Victory, and X to their true forms. After the battle, Naomi and the SSP bid farewell to Gai as he prepared to leave once again. Before parting, Naomi told him that she would wait for his return. Trivia[]
- A running gag within the series is Naomi tripping over an object, usually to a comical effect.
- In the initial plan, Naomi did not have any blood relation to Natasha, and they were simply intended to have overlapping storylines. However, the main director, Kiyotaka Taguchi, felt that this alone was not enough to establish a connection between Naomi and Gai. Therefore, he decided to introduce the development that Natasha was actually alive, and set Naomi as her descendant, becoming the catalyst for Gai's awakening.
