The Murder Dolls were evil dolls that appeared in the horror/mystery series, Operation: Mystery.
History[]
Operation: Mystery[]
Kyosuke Misawa from SRI is visiting his friend Akira Onijima's home. However, at the front door, he encounters Akira's father, Takehiko Onijima, who is an inventor with many patents and considerable patent fees. When Misawa informs Akira of this, Akira and his wife both change their expressions. In fact, Akira's wife had also seen Takehiko the day before. However, Takehiko and they live separately and do not usually see each other.
To confirm Misawa's sighting, they decide to call Takehiko at his home in the rural area of Den-en-chōfu. When the phone rings, a shadowy figure stands up and hangs up the call, leading Akira to believe that his father is at home but does not wish to meet him.
When Misawa asks about the reason, Akira explains that his father once doted on him but now harbors hatred towards him. This transformation of affection into hatred is something that cannot be changed. That night, while the three of them are watching television at home, the screen suddenly becomes distorted and nothing is visible. Misawa goes to bed but is attacked and finds an injury on his hand. Meanwhile, a salaryman walking down the night road sees a doll that has been placed there. As the salaryman walks past the doll, it suddenly attacks him with a blade extending from its hand. The salaryman is severely injured in the attack and succumbs to his injuries, while the doll slowly leaves the scene.
Subsequently, Chief Inspector Machida was investigating the scene when he received news that Misawa had been summoned to the search headquarters. A wound was discovered on the back of Misawa's hand, which was believed to have been caused during the struggle with the salaryman. That night, as Misawa was walking down the street, the doll targeted him again. Misawa was attacked and suffered a cut on his forehead, but he survived.
Meanwhile, Akira visited his father. After hearing about Misawa’s injury, Akira thought the doll might be targeting him. He asked Takehiko why he hated him, and Takehiko said it was because Akira had betrayed him. Akira argued that growing up and leaving is not betrayal but just jealousy. Takehiko then angrily threw Akira out and went to speak gently to someone lying on the bed.
Since the incident, Misawa had not returned to the headquarters. Nomura speculated that Misawa might have been attacked because he had discovered something. Additionally, after analyzing the salaryman’s autopsy, it was found that the wound slices were made with a special type of blade, which could be a clue to finding the culprit. SRI decided to start their investigation from this point.
After learning about the murder case, Takehiko began frantically searching for the missing doll. He asked the shadowy figure lying on the bed where the doll had been placed, hoping that they could stop, live happily together, and not cause any more trouble. However, the doll’s expression changed upon hearing Takehiko's words, "I hate my son." The next night, Misawa was watching Takehiko’s house when a taxi arrived with a man and woman. The woman said she had seen a drunk Takehiko and brought him home. Misawa helped the woman get home and asked her to wait in his car. However, when the woman got into the car, the doll appeared. Out of fear, the woman drove off, but the doll clung tightly to the car.
Although the woman escaped to her home, the doll broke in and killed her. Misawa, who arrived at the scene, was suspected of the crime but was released due to lack of evidence. Misawa noted that the same TV interference from the first murder occurred during the second incident. SRI then decided to use reverse radio wave detection, while the doll appeared again, leading to further investigation by SRI and the police.
The police and SRI went to investigate Takehiko’s house. However, Takehiko's refusal led them to prepare to leave. At that moment, Takehiko's screams were heard from inside the house. The police burst into the room and shot to destroy the doll that was about to attack Takehiko. However, Takehiko stood in front of a room door, blocking the officials' entry, claiming that there was a young child inside. Despite this, SRI and the police broke through the obstruction and entered the room.
On the bed in the room lay a black-haired girl doll in a pink dress. It turned out that this doll was the true culprit. Under everyone's gaze, the doll spoke through the music box's melody, saying:
"I need to kill the children of the old man who abandoned him... I'm an adult. I can't stand being treated like a child forever... I'm going to abandon the old man and become independent. So I have to kill you too..."
- ―The "Blue Blood Woman"
The doll climbed onto the roof but fell after emitting a mournful cry. By the time Misawa arrived, the doll had bled blue and ceased moving.
A few days later, SRI discussed the case. Director Matoya remarked that the current era is the loneliest for the elderly. Therefore, Takehiko might have created "that thing" as an item that would not betray him. However, "that thing" also attempted to abandon the old man, ultimately leading to its own destruction. The true nature of "that thing" is something no one can truly understand. However, what exactly "that thing" is—whether it is human, a doll, or a robot—remains unanswered by SRI. Perhaps, as the world becomes increasingly strange, everyone might end up becoming "that thing."
