"Those two giants of light appeared in their (Ancestors) dreams that night. And, they spoke: "When the time is right, bestow these to someone worthy.""

―Matsuo telling about his ancestors dream.

Matsuo Kumashiro (熊城 松雄, Kumashiro Matsuo) is a minor character in Ultraman R/B. He is the team manager of the amateur baseball team "White Bears" where Katsumi Minato belongs.

Personality[]

Kumashiro has a kind and gentle personality, leading the members of Team White Bears (ホワイトベアーズ, Howaito Beāzu) in a soft-spoken manner. As a long-time coach, he possesses exceptional observational skills and is adept at identifying the potential of his players. He encourages and guides them to perform at their best. This coaching style has earned him the admiration and respect of his team members, including Katsumi.

He also believes that winning or losing in a game is not the most important thing. Instead, he emphasizes the importance of the process and the sense of fulfillment gained from it.

History[]

Ultraman R/B[]

Kumashiro has been serving as the manager of an amateur baseball team called the "White Bears" for a long time, and also served as the baseball team advisor when Katsumi was in high school. Therefore, he discovered Katsumi's baseball talent earlier than others. Even when Katsumi later chose to give up college due to family reasons, Kumashiro recruited him to his team, allowing Katsumi to once again pursue his interests.

However, six months ago, Kumashiro underwent stomach surgery and decided to retire after the next practice game with the Chobo-Kyu Shoten Street team from the north of the city. Therefore, in order to give Kumashiro a memorable retirement ceremony, Katsumi pushed the team members to train hard and vowed to win the next game.

In his eagerness to achieve good results, Katsumi resorted to some outdated training methods, which caused the team members to become dissatisfied with him. On the day before the game, Katsumi and the team members had a disagreement over this issue, and they argued endlessly. At this moment, a Red King suddenly appeared in the city, and when Katsumi transformed into Ultraman Rosso and experienced a fierce battle, he became exhausted. Kumashiro, watching the news, seemed to realize Katsumi's identity as Ultraman through observing his pitching posture during the fight.

RB Crystals 0005

Three R/B Crystals collected by Kumashiro's ancestors.

As the atmosphere between Katsumi and the team members suddenly became tense, and he became emotionally low after being injured in the earlier battle, Kumashiro decided to help him by applying medicine and encouraging him. At the same time, he prepared a precious gift as a farewell gift, which was three R/B Crystals that his ancestors found and passed down after the event of the Ayaka Star falling 1300 years ago. He explained that these crystals were obtained by his ancestors in a dream when they met two Giant of Light, and he believed that these items should be handed over to the right person at the right time, and insisted that Katsumi accept them.

On the day of the match, Katsumi apologized to his teammates and started playing. However, in the midst of the intense game, Makoto Aizen quietly left the stadium and summoned Red King on the mountain. When Katsumi realized that his younger brother Isami had left the field and received a message on his phone about the monster's appearance, Kumashiro helped him understand his duty, and he decided to give his pitching position to Kumashiro so that he could go to the emergency.

After the battle ended, when Katsumi rushed back to the stadium, he found that while he was away, the opposing team had hit a grand slam home run in the last half-inning, resulting in a 1-4 defeat. Although the outcome was not ideal, Kumashiro remained optimistic and smiled at Katsumi, enjoying the process of the game. The two of them watched the sunset in the distance together. The Winning Ball of Light
