Mari Kawase is one of the supporting characters of Ultraman Cosmos: The First Contact. She was Musashi Haruno's elementary school classmate. In Ultraman Cosmos 2: The Blue Planet, she returns as an adult.

Ultraman Cosmos: The First Contact[]
Mari is Musashi's classmate and friend, and unlike the rest of her classmates, she believes in Musashi's encounter with the Ultraman Cosmos in the forest from the beginning.
While leaving the forest, Mari accidentally encounters Shirubyi and, with Shirubyi's help, recaptures the Cosmo Stone from the Staff Shigemura. When the Cosmo Stone was returned to Musashi, she and Yuki hoped that Musashi would summon Cosmos to save the city threatened by Basical.
Later, after witnessing the battle of the giants and the death of Basical, Mari watched Shirubyi and her companions leave Earth. Ultraman Cosmos: The First Contact
Ultraman Cosmos 2: The Blue Planet[]
Eleven years later, Mari returns as an adult and plays a crucial role in the movie. She and Musashi came to Saipan because they participated in the wedding of her elementary school classmate Mian.
One day, when Mari and Musashi went snorkeling, they found a portal underwater and were ambushed by Reija. Under the guidance of Shirubyi, Mari is taken care of by Alien Gyashi, whose home planet got destroyed by Sandros, and she decides to help them study the method of nurturing the "source of life" to revive their home planet. While assisting, she gradually fell in love with Jin, the leader of Alien Gyashi.
After the Ultraman Cosmos and Ultraman Justice successfully annihilate Sandros and save the Earth again. Alien Gyashi's experiment finally paid off.
Later, Mari and Musashi bid farewell to the Alien Gyashi, who left the earth. Ultraman Cosmos 2: The Blue Planet
Ultraman Cosmos vs. Ultraman Justice: The Final Battle[]
Three years later, when the Giga Endra came to destroy all life on Earth, Mari and Musashi's mother, Michiko Haruno, goes to the forest where Musashi and Cosmos met to meet the former EYES members and try to find the disappeared Musashi in the area.
After reuniting with Jin and Shau, Mari and Musashi's friends combine their energies to try to resurrect Cosmos and, in the end, witness the emergence of Ultraman Legend. Ultraman Cosmos vs. Ultraman Justice: The Final Battle

- The casting of the adult Mari was decided through an audition process. Miho Kaneko was chosen for several reasons, including her role as the annual brand ambassador for a beer company at the time, which gave her excellent outward appeal and a natural elegance. Additionally, it was taken into consideration that in the storyline, the younger version of Mari was slightly taller than Musashi, which also influenced the casting decision.[1]
