Kouhei Kariya is the ace marksman and combat survival specialist in Super GUTS, also doubling as an archaeology expert.
Personality[]
Kariya possesses a calm and serious personality. During leisure moments, he often wears headphones to enjoy music alone or immerses himself in the world of reading archaeological books, showcasing an exceptional scholarly spirit. At times, he reveals a romantic side. Due to his past focus on archaeological research, he possesses extensive knowledge in archaeology.
Additionally, while he is resolute in confronting threats to Earth, he adopts a conservative stance when dealing with creatures possessing ancient histories. This is evident in his strong interest and proactive protective stance, especially when formulating strategies against Gigantes and Sodom.
In the series, he maintains a harmonious relationship with the members of Super GUT Sand often collaborates with fellow researcher Nakajima to discuss strategies. At times, he partners with Ryo for joint operations, but he often misspeaks in her presence, leading to frequent irritation from Ryo, who occasionally gives him a good beating. As a result, he harbors a bit of fear towards her.
His hobby is drinking coffee, and he frequently uses a silver mug in the command room.

According to TPC records, Kariya was born on January 16, 1989, in the suburbs of Florence, Italy, as the son of an archaeology professor at the University of Perugia. From March 2000 to April 2006, he returned to Japan to live. Due to being a Kikokushijo, having grown up in Italy from a young age, his adaptation to Japan was not very smooth.
Later, he went abroad again to the United Kingdom to seek an ideal learning environment at the University of Oxford, where he graduated at the top of his class and achieved success in the academic world.
In 2010, he decided to give up his academic career and was stationed at the TPC Southern European Branch in pursuit of his goals. There, he gradually made a name for himself. Sometime before 2015, Kariya was a student of Dr. Akizuki, a geoglyph researcher.
R'lyeh Tragedy[]

In 2012, Kariya, who was still a trainee at ZERO at the time, along with other trainees from the same period, was dispatched to assist GUTS in their mission to confront the Shibito-Zoiger armies at R'lyeh.Ultraman Tiga: The Final Odyssey
Over the next two years, due to a proposed restructuring of the original GUTS, it evolved into a plan centered around the current trainees at ZERO to form a new GUTS. In 2014, Super GUTS was officially established, and Kariya joined as one of its inaugural members.

Kariya is shocked to witness the first appearance of Ultraman Dyna.
Kariya made his initial appearance when Super GUTS recruited its seventh member. At that time, he joined the other members in welcoming the newly added Shin Asuka. Upon receiving the news of the destruction of the Mars base, everyone including Kariya, boarded GUTS Eagle and headed for Mars. Over the Mars base, Kariya engaged in a desperate battle with the cluster of spheres. Just as the battle reached a deadlock, a new giant of light emerged and successfully defeated Darambia. One day, Super GUTS received a report about Passion Red being shot down. After examining the images left by Passion Red, Kariya noticed that the enemy resembled one of the monstersdepicted in the geoglyphs of the Andes Mountains. Consequently, he headed to Dr. Akizuki's house for consultation. It was the first time he had seen Akizuki and his family in a while, but something seemed amiss.
Feeling uneasy, Kariya retraced his steps upon leaving, only to discover that the real Akizuki family had been confined to a room. It turned out that the Zenekindarl people had taken over Akizuki's residence, and Kariya had also been discovered by Zenekindarl people and locked in the same room using a special key.

According to Dr. Akizuki's explanation, Kariya learned that the Zenekindarl people were a race that thrived in the ancient Andean civilization, once conquering the Earth by controlling three monsters. Now, they have resurrected in the modern era, attempting to awaken those monsters from geoglyphs. Using his own accessories, Kariya successfully obtained a communication device left in the corridor to contact the base. Super GUTS promptly mobilized, successfully defeating the monster about to emerge from the geoglyph, but they couldn't prevent the timely resurrection of Dexador.
After being rescued by Ryo, Kariya successfully destroyed the Zenekindarl people's crystal ball. Following the resolution of the situation, he used persuasion to convince the guilt-ridden Dr. Akizuki to return to the academic field.Forbidden Picture on the Ground
Kariya breaks Eshilis' seal in the tomb chamber of the Valley of the Kings.
After some time, TPC dispatched Kariya and three researchers to investigate an unidentified structure beneath an ancient relic called the "Valley of the Kings" on the far side of the moon. They discovered a relic capable of generating gravity through artificial means and found an extraterrestrial mummy inside a coffin. Guided by a mysterious voice, Kariya pulled out a sword embedded in the mummy. As the sword was drawn, a seal was broken, allowing the mummy to transform into Alien Nuaza Eshilis, which took possession of Kariya's body. Utilizing Kariya's body, Eshilis transported the coffin containing the mummy back to Earth.
Subsequently, members of Super GUTS discovered that Kariya and the other three investigators had been possessed by the souls of extraterrestrials. After Eshilis's true identity was exposed, it detached from Kariya's body and activated the gravity generation device on the moon, attempting to collide it with Earth. The alien spirits, possessing the investigators, revealed their tragic past of being exterminated by Eshilis. To prevent Eshilis's plans, they needed to reseal Eshilis.
To thwart Eshilis's conspiracy, Super GUTS launched an attack in space, but the Eshilis manifested in a gigantic form. Even with Dyna participating in the battle, the situation became challenging. According to the alien spirits, the activation program for the gravity generation device seemed to be within Eshilis's body. To prevent this impending disaster, Kariya had to once again pierce the mummy with the sword. As Kariya stabbed the sword into the mummy, Eshilis began to endure intense pain. Ultimately, Dyna defeated Eshilis with a powerful punch, successfully preventing the moon from colliding.The Supreme Ruler Who Sleeps on the Moon
One day, a man loudly causing a disturbance on the street declares, "Bundar has come." Immediately, a mysterious tower-shaped object descends from the sky. The man, upon collapsing, is taken to TPC for investigation, but he has lost his memory. Upon learning that the man is the famous playwright Hiroya Narumi's butler, and that the mentioned "Bundar" is a Kaiju from Narumi's play "Kaiju Play" published in a drama magazine. Super GUTS dispatches Kariya and Asuka to investigate Narumi's residence, where they find the script of "Kaiju Play." Simultaneously, Bounder transforms into a Kaiju, causing chaos in the city.

After returning to headquarters, Kariya goes to the medical center with Mayumi to investigate the man again, discovering Narumi's purpose—to bring about the human extinction finale depicted in "Kaiju Play". Subsequently, the two notice a distortion on the cover of the "Kaiju Play" script. This distortion is an optical illusion; placing a sheet of silver paper on the script cover makes the distorted image meaningful. The cover depicts Dyna.
When the light shines on Asuka, who has been restrained by Narumi, the binding is released, and Dyna engages in an intense battle with Bundar.Monster Drama
When Asuka and Ryo were captured by Black Buster Corps on their way to Mars, Kariya and other members rushed to the scene in an attempt to rescue them. However, all they found was a chaotic Mars base. Subsequently, a mysterious event occurred on Pluto where objects were devoured and disappeared.
The Cosmo Attacker Corps of TPC set out from Jupiter's Ganymede base, and Super GUTS was also dispatched to assist. Unfortunately, the Cosmo Attacker Corps was annihilated by a massive dark gravitational field generated by the mysterious object. Unable to save the members of that unit, Kariya swore to avenge them and returned to Ganymede base to stand by.
Kariya and other members participate in the final battle against the Gran-Sphere.
Due to TPC's conventional weapons being ineffective against Gran-Sphere, the Neo Maxima Cannon was authorized for use by high-ranking officials at headquarters. However, Gran-Sphere was moving towards Earth at a faster-than-expected pace, and it was even advancing towards Jupiter's moon, Ganymede. Additionally, Neo Gaigaraid emerged from Gran-Sphere, launching attacks against TPC in an attempt to destroy the Neo Maxima Cannon.
In an effort to buy time, Kariya took action and engaged in battle. Following the confrontation between Dyna and Neo Gaigaraid, the Clarkov NF-3000 successfully fired the Neo Maxima Cannon at Neo Gaigaraid and Gran-Sphere, but the weapon's power was still insufficient to eliminate Gran-Sphere. Kariya believed that, given the current circumstances with no visible resolution, formulating an unsubstantiated strategy was impractical.Final Chapter II: Solar System Annihilation
All members of Super GUTS gaze at the distant Ultra Star, firmly believing that Asuka will return someday.
After the weakening of the gravitational field, Super GUTS temporarily withdrew and regrouped. Informed by Asuka, Kariya learned that Asuka was the true identity of Dyna. Despite the shock among the team members, Super GUTS chose to believe in Asuka and began collaborating with Dyna to prepare for the final assault.
Ultimately, Gran-Sphere was successfully defeated. Planets engulfed by Gran-Sphere safely returned, and humanity overcame the danger of extinction. However, Asuka did not return. In the midst of their sorrow, Super GUTS glimpses a bright star in the distant space. The team members pledge to catch up with Asuka, who is still moving forward somewhere, and are confident that they will see him again one day.Final Chapter III: Toward Tomorrow...
Ultraman Tiga & Ultraman Dyna: Warriors of the Star of Light[]
After some time, TPC successfully developed the "Prometheus battleship." Rui Kisaragi, the person in charge of its development, invited Super GUTS to visit, and they all went to the Cliomos Islands' arsenal to see this battleship. To their amazement, they discovered that the battleship was equipped with an intelligent control system.
However, not long after, a mysterious spacecraft appeared and began attacking the island. Members of Super GUTS quickly rushed to respond, but suddenly, control of the Prometheus battleship was seized, turning it into Deathfacer. The group could only witness Dyna disappearing in the midst of the battle in the skies and the severe damage inflicted upon the Cliomos Islands. During this battle, both Asuka and Mai were injured and fell into a comatose state, eventually requiring urgent transportation to the hospital for treatment.

As Deathfacer began to wreak havoc in the city, Super GUTS launched an attack with the support of Iruma piloting GUTS Wing 1. As Deathfacer was defeated, Alien Monera and Monera Seed merged to form the colossal Queen Monera, swallowing Dyna. Despite the despair felt by the people in the shelter, the members of Super GUTS, including Kariya, did not give up, steadfastly continuing their resistance. Ultimately, through the unity and hope of humanity, Ultraman Tiga was successfully summoned.
As Tiga and Dyna teamed up to attack Queen Monera, despite the fighter jet being shot down, the Super GUTS members on the ground continued to work tirelessly, providing support to the two Ultras without hesitation. 15 years later, Kariya became the vice-captain of Super GUTS Mars.
The year following Asuka's disappearance on the other side of time and space, TPC underwent a significant internal restructuring. Members, including Kariya, all journeyed to Mars to become early members of Super GUTS Mars.
In the year 2035, Kariya was promoted to the position of vice-captain of Super GUTS Mars. He witnessed the battle between Nozomu Taiga and the Sphere Fleet from the command room at the Mars base.
After Super GUTS tried to detect the latter multiple times, Asuka appeared, briefly returned to his universe where he inform them of Taiga's whereabouts. The members also expressed to Asuka that they would catch up with him one day.Ultraman Saga
