Ultraman Wiki

"I don't remember how I was saved at all, but I'm sure when member Asuka's hand touched me, I saw the light. After considering many things, I decided to set my eyes on Super GUTS and return to the training school ZERO...to believe in hope and realize my dream."

―Kenji's letter to Asuka, "The Light and Shadow of the Youthful"

Kenji Fudo (フドウ・ケンジ, Fudō Kenji) is a character that appeared in Ultraman Dyna. He is a member of the Black Buster Corps.

Personality[]

Kenji has a calm and imposing personality, and he approaches team-related confidential missions with a serious attitude. In the past, he had great admiration for Super GUTS because his older brother Takeru had made it his goal. However, when his brother died due to an error in piloting a GUTS Eagle Alpha-Superior, Kenji was unable to face the reality and felt extremely hopeless.

Despite this, he understands that people driven by anger cannot judge things according to common sense. He accepted his brother's wish and attempted to prove that he had surpassed Super GUTS, which his brother had aspired to, and joined the Black Buster Corps to carry out confidential missions.

History[]

Ultraman Dyna[]

Kihachi Gondou 32

Gondou introduces Kenji to the members of Super GUTS.

After about a year of investigation, Kenji and other members of the Black Buster Corps traced Hiroyuki Yamazaki's continued plan to clone monsters. When Clone Daigelun attacked the city, Kenji served as the pilot of GUTS Shadow and assisted the Super GUTS members who piloted GUTS Eagle in defeating Clone Daigelun. At the time, he gave instructions to Shin Asuka, who was on the front lines, but the latter did not take any action.

Afterwards, he went to the Super GUTS command center in Grandome to report on the mission to track down Yamazaki, and was introduced to his superior Kihachi Gondou.

According to the mission information, the task of arresting Yamazaki was designated to be jointly undertaken by Super GUTS and Kenji. When he communicated with Asuka, he took the opportunity to inform him of the fact that his brother had died during a new mecha experiment. However, he also believed that Asuka and Super GUTS relied too much on Ultraman Dyna, and only saw Ultraman as the last "miracle" when they tried their best but were still helpless. He felt disdainful and disappointed with Asuka's inadequate performance, and believed that relying on vague things like "light" was wrong.

When they both realized Yamazaki's conspiracy and went to the scene to prevent him from stealing the Evolu cell, Yamazaki escaped due to Asuka's failure to fire, which made Kenji angry. As a result, they got into a fight, and during the process, Kenji vented out his inner suppression and questioned the meaning of his brother's life and goals. He was angry and regretful about the idea that "his brother lost to such a man during his lifetime."

Kenji Fudo 12

Kenji turned into light under the influence of the Lieflasher before going unconscious.

Later, he teamed up with Asuka to stop Hiroyuki Yamazaki from escaping to the asteroid belt at the closed TPC base known as "The Lockdown". Kenji decided to work with Asuka to compete with him, and together they fought against the Zomborg Soldiers stationed there. During the battle, Kenji obtained a talisman from Asuka.

In the final confrontation with Yamazaki, with Asuka's actions being restricted, Kenji attempted to stop Yamazaki but was shot and fell to the ground. As Asuka ran to Kenji's side, he expressed his desire to believe in hope before losing consciousness. Asuka held Kenji's hand and transformed with him using the Lieflasher, and they were surrounded by a dazzling light.

After the incident, he had a significant change in his impression of Asuka. Upon returning safely, he sent a letter to Asuka and mentioned that he didn't remember how he was rescued but felt a shining light when Asuka's hand touched him. After much thought, he decided to return to Training School ZERO and continue his efforts to join Super GUTS. As he stood before Takeru's grave, the GUTS Eagle Alpha that Asuka rode on flew overhead. The Light and Shadow of the Youthful

Trivia[]

  • According to the initial draft of episode 39, the character planned to appear was not Kenji but Takeru Fudo, and he would have died in battle. According to the scriptwriter of the same episode, Shin Yoshida, due to the change in character, set the episode's main theme to be "the younger brother's challenge after the older brother's death." However, it was considered cruel to make Kenji face the same fate as Takeru, and as a result, they changed the main ending of episode 39.
