Trivia
- As shown in Ultraseven EVOLUTION, his greatest mental weakness is his belief that physical ability will always save him.
- Shima's actor, Kunio Masaoka, later played Shinya Kenmochi in Ultraman Neos and became the temporary human body of Ultraseven 21.
- According to a joint interview with Wataru Koga in 2002, Masaoka stated:[1]
- During the filming of "The End of the Contract", he and his co-star, Noriko Tanaka, tried to avoid communicating with each other. He felt that casual conversation might lighten the atmosphere, so even though he was aware of her presence on set, he kept his distance. It wasn't until the scene by the seaside where he rescued someone that he saw her face directly for the first time, which felt very refreshing.
- In EVOLUTION, Shima's determination to kill the plant life forms is portrayed by Masaoka as an attempt to express change within the context of the story set five years after The Final Chapters. In depicting the five-years-later version of Shima, Masaoka made an effort to align him with Captain Shiragane from the 30th Anniversary Trilogy. Although Shiragane consistently maintained a humane perspective, Shima also inherited this philosophy to some extent. In fact, in that situation, Masaoka envisioned what his "true self" would do, focusing more on the character's stance and sense of distance.
