Jet Jaguar is a Toho created robot, based on the Ultraman design, appearing in the film Godzilla vs. Megalon.

Backstory

In 1973, after Return of Ultraman, Ultraman Ace, and Ultraman Taro, dozens of Ultraman look alikes started to pop up all over the Japanese media. Spectreman, Zone Fighter, Godman, Greenman, Megaloman, and most (in)famously, Jet Jaguar. A contest was held for a new Toho film, and a Japanese student created the robot and villain Megalon. Toho, liking the character designs, made the film but added two of their more popular creatures, Gigan and Godzilla himself. Tsuburaya Productions didn't mind this. The original Jet Jaguar's name was Red Alone, and it featured him fighting Megalon by himself. However, Toho decided to add Godzilla and Gigan to the movie, as they believed the Red Alone could not hold his own in a movie financially.

Lawsuit

When the Wii and PS2 games Godzilla: Unleashed and Godzilla: Save the Earth were being made, Jet Jaguar was added to the roster of monsters. In the games, he needed a projectile attack, and Atari and Pipeworks gave him a familiar looking beam fired from an 'L' shaped cross of his arms. Tsuburaya Productions, wary of lawsuits due to Chaiyo, tried to sue Atari and Pipeworks for this action, but the case has since been resolved and in Godzilla: Unleashed, Jet Jaguar's arm crossing is changed to him holding one of his fist in his hands.
