I'll Feast on Medals! (メダルいただきます!, Medaru Itadakimasu!) is the thirteenth episode of Ultraman Z.

Synopsis[]

The Coin Monster Kanegon appears before Haruki. The money-eating monster is hungry, and of all things it eats Haruki's Ultra Medals! Looking back on Z's past adventures, Haruki must find a way to get the Ultra Medals back from Kanegon's stomach!

Plot[]

STORAGE ep13

Haruki is assigned to night duty in the STORAGE base on his own as Yoko was the last person to leave the base. While inside the hangar room, Kanegon appears out of nowhere and devour the Ultra Medals from the Z Holder. After attempts in forcing the Medals out of the monster fail, Haruki can just recall the events lead to him merging with Z and assuming Alpha Edge, causing Kanegon to spit the three medals that make up said form. Hebikura appears and Haruki was forced to cover Kanegon's presence as a "sleeping bag" of sorts before he goes to the hangar. Staring back at the King Joe, Hebikura recalls the SAA units that assisted STORAGE before and revealed that he had stolen Celebro's Ultra Medal recipe notes, but throws them away.

"Stop. It's not that simple. We fight monsters to protect people from tragedy and grief. We fight for peace. But, monsters have a reason they attack, too. Its not like they just want to kill. The Red King was just trying to defend its family. But what I did to it... if I hadn't done anything, lots of people would have suffered. But... the Red King had a family... [...] I don't know what should I do! The more I think, the more I get confused! Yoko made her decision to fight. I feel... ashamed."

―Haruki to Kanegon.

In the control room, Haruki recalls Beta Smash and his newfound guilt of killing monsters after realizing that they actually meant no harm despite their massive sizes being dangerous to civilizations. As Haruki regains the Beta Smash medals, he is forced to hide Kanegon from Yuka. As she left, Haruki finally tells the details of Gamma Future, but to his horror, the Medals this time are ejected in the manner of a toilet humor.

Kanegon left the STORAGE base not long after, while Z reconciles with Haruki as the former now understand about Haruki's feelings, admitting that there's still a lot of things that Z yet to know about his host. As he returns to his desk, he found an instant Yakisoba left to him by Yoko.

Trivia[]

  • The fandom joke that Ultraman Z Beta Smash resembles Redman is referenced when Kanegon yells out in terror about the "red guy" before saying it was just his imagination.
  • The stance Ultraman Z performs with Haruki within the Inner Space is the Cross Touch, a sign of bonds that the original Ultraman offers Z in the Ultraman Day Special Movie.
  • The instant yakisoba Yoko leaves for Haruki at the end is a reference to Gai Kurenai, particularly the name of the product, Fūraibō Yakisoba (風来坊焼きそば, lit. Wanderer Yakisoba), and to an extension also a reference to Gai preparing yakisoba in Justice Out of Control.
  • A Japanese pun plays out when when Yuka tells Haruki about Grigio Raiden's gender. She after Yuka tells Haruki that Grigio is female (メス), Haruki replies with 'Kay/押忍, which is a homophone for "male" (オス). Yuka then shouts at him while repeating her statement. This joke can be difficult to pick up because it is lost in translation.
