Ultraman Cosmos[]

Before the establishment of EYES, Hiura was a researcher at the SRC Universe Development Center. Trivia[]

  • According to a 2021 interview with Daisuke Shima:[1]
    • He initially accepted the role after his agency received an offer from Tsuburaya Productions.
    • Before joining Ultraman Cosmos, Shima had already played the lead role in the 1988 tokusatsu series Chojuu Sentai Liveman. Initially, he was concerned about whether he could break free from the established image of his previous character, Yusuke Amamiya/Red Falcon. He discussed this with the producer, Hiroyasu Shibuya, who wanted Hiura to be different from typical leaders—portrayed as someone who occasionally fails, is a bit clumsy, and maintains a close relationship with his team. This humanized and somewhat comedic approach to the character intrigued Shima and quickly alleviated his concerns.
    • During the planning stages, Hiura was envisioned as a more rigid character. However, Shima made some adjustments to the role, leading to the decision that Hiura would be affectionately called "Cap" by his team members instead of "Captain," further emphasizing his closeness with them.
    • One of the most memorable episodes for Shima was Episode 64, where Fubuki tells Musashi that he knows the true identity of Ultraman Cosmos. Hiura then loudly stops him from revealing it. This scene was complex because it raised the question of whether Hiura himself knew Musashi/Cosmos’s true identity. After discussing it with Director Nemoto Miki, they decided that Hiura secretly knew Musashi’s identity all along.
