Greeks is an original mecha that appears in the fourth episode of Mamoru Uchiyama's manga of Ultraman Leo, "Machine Robo Greeks!".

History

Ultraman Leo (Manga)

Greeks was a giant robot created by an unnamed, crazy old man doctor who believed that humans could defend themselves from the threat of aliens and monsters on their own without the need of Ultramen to help. The doctor was scolded and resented by his scientist colleagues however who believed his idea would not be possible. Greeks would take 15 years to build. The doctor and Greeks hid in a scientific lab hidden within the mountains waiting for action. Greeks would get it's first chance at combat when the Doctor spotted Ultraman Leo fighting off both Alien Magma and Giron Man out in a Japanese city. The doctor then got into the cockpit of Greeks and deployed Greeks into combat.

Upon arriving to the scene, Greeks showed off impressive fighting skills and abilities as he was able to kill off Giron Man with relative ease. The doctor then made himself known and denounced Ultraman Leo, stating that Earthlings can fight off monsters on their own by using Greeks. When it came to fighting Alien Magma, the doctor within Greeks rejected Ultraman Leo's help by criticizing him for his inability to defeat Alien Magma and saying that "You guys are gurus from the beginning . That's why Leo always lets Alien Magma escape!". With Ultraman Leo having been robbed of his family and his homeworld having been destroyed by the Alien Magmas, Ultraman Leo considered this to be an unforgiveable insult. Greeks and Ultraman Leo then fought, with Alien Magma then retreating.

Ultraman Leo stated that he didn't want to fight Earthlings but the doctor piloting Greeks ignored his words and then prepared to do battle with Ultraman Leo. Greeks transformed into his disc form and then attacked Ultraman Leo, seemingly destroying the Ultra during their ensuing battle, however Ultraman Leo had actually shrunk himself down and hid around Greeks's back of neck. Ultraman Leo then grew again and fought Greeks once more. Their battle went on for some more time until Ultraman Leo was able to defeat Greeks by delivering a spinning attack against Greeks, causing the doctor to fall out of Greeks's cockpit and land down to the ground and destroying Greeks. The doctor's eyes just rolled around and he laughed as his creation was no longer working.

As Ultraman Leo left he said that "The robot was the best, but the pilot inside was the worst."

Trivia

• While Greeks is far from the first giant robot to appear in the Ultraman franchise, he is the first example of a super robot created on Earth in the series, predating the likes of Geozark or Mountain Gulliver 5.
• Greeks is also known as simply "Robot" (ロボット).
• Greeks is quite clearly themed after ancient Greek statues and soldiers.
• Greeks was created to reflect on the current giant robot/mecha anime boom that was extremely popular at the time in Japan, as during the same time Ultraman Taro was being broadcast Mazinger Z was also being broadcast and when Ultraman Leo was being broadcast Getter Robo was being broadcast as well.
  • Shogakukan, who published the Ultraman Leo manga, also published an "Ultraman Leo vs. Getter Robo" manga around the same time as well.

• Eye Sluggers: Greeks can hurl from his crest several sluggers to slice up at his opponents, similar to Ultraseven's Eye Slugger.
• Strength: Greeks is extremely strong, as he was able to take on both Alien Magma and Ultraman Leo both at once while taking very minimal damage and also destroyed Giron Man with ease.
• Disc Form: Greeks can transform into a flying disc form that is highly maneuverable.
