Return of Ultraman[]
Kishida comes from an old military family and tends to have connections with the higher-level officers who oversee MAT. He lives with his mother, but his father is deceased, as is his older brother, who committed suicide upon learning a family secret.
As a member of the MAT, Kishida is very loyal to his tasks and discipline, and is also renowned as a sharpshooter on par with Minami. He also has a technician side, demonstrating outstanding skills in the development of new weapons and radar systems. Initially, his strict attitude, both towards himself and others, often led to misunderstandings, but he actually has a sensitive side. Although his common-sense confidence sometimes leads to hasty judgments in handling monster incidents, his outward confidence remains unshaken.
During the Gudon and Twin Tail attack, he was extremely harsh towards Hideki Go and nearly convinced him to resign from MAT. Battle! Monsters vs. MAT
During a mission, after receiving reports of a monster sighting, MAT began an investigation within three days. Subsequently, the team discovered in the mountainous area that members of a period drama film crew had been killed. Additionally, the body of a rabbit was found at the scene. MAT recovered the crew's cameras and examined the recorded footage. The results revealed that the creatures suffered and ultimately died due to yellow mist that had drifted in. The footage also captured the silhouette of what appeared to be a monster.
This is when Staff Officer Satake of the TDA arrived at the scene. It was confirmed that the crew had died from poison gas. This gas was a type of yellow poison gas bomb developed by the old Japanese army during World War II, with extremely high toxicity that can be fatal within 10 seconds if inhaled. Kishida found the name "Yellow Gas
" somewhat familiar.Since Japan had already been defeated before the order for the use of yellow poison gas was issued, it was discarded. Kishida, upon returning home and reviewing his deceased father's materials, learned that his father had been involved in the development of yellow poison gas. According to the notes, Kishida’s father had been troubled and pained by the development of yellow poison gas and was relieved that it had never been used.
Meanwhile, the monster Mognezun appeared in the mountains. It began emitting poison gas and attacking humans. After being attacked by Kishida and Go's MAT Arrow 1, Mognezun fled underground, but it was discovered to have expelled shells containing yellow poison gas, indicating that Mognezun had ingested the yellow poison gas.
Kishida again reviewed his father's materials at home and discovered that the discarded yellow poison gas had been buried in the mountains, which was precisely where Mognezun had appeared and caused the landslide. Feeling responsible for the harm caused by the terrifying poison gas left behind by his father, Kishida decided to personally eliminate Mognezun. Meanwhile, Captain Katsuichiro Kato declared at the operations meeting that the team would defeat the monster through collective teamwork and reminded everyone not to act alone. However, during a patrol, Mognezun reappeared before Kishida. Kishida chose not to call for backup and decided to attack alone.
Go, who was flying with Kishida, tried to dissuade him from continuing the solo attack, but Kishida insisted on proceeding. As a result, the MAT Arrow 2, piloted by Kishida, was shot down by Mognezun. Although Kishida survived, he was severely injured. After learning about the situation from Kishida's mother, Go vowed to defeat Mognezun.
MAT then engaged in combat with Mognezun. However, Mognezun retaliated and began launching poison gas attacks. In a critical moment, Go transformed into Ultraman Jack and commenced the battle. Even Jack struggled against the poison gas attacks. At this point, the team member Takeshi Minami arrived on the scene and used the MAT Gyro to drop flammable gas shells. This successfully deprived Mognezun of the gas needed to expel yellow poison gas. Jack then launched a counterattack and successfully defeated Mognezun.
After being safely discharged from the hospital, Kishida apologized for his previous disobedience of orders. Understanding the situation, Captain Kato encouraged Kishida by saying, "The monster is dead, and that loathsome creature known as poison gas has also been eliminated."[2]Poison Gas Monster Appears Afterward, he gradually opened up to Go, and the two became close friends, beginning to discuss personal matters and share jokes.
One day, Kishida's long-distance radar, which he had poured his heart into developing, was nearing completion. Late at night, while Go and Kishida were returning home in a MAT vehicle after finishing work, they encountered a burning car. They rescued a woman trapped inside, and Go noticed two objects that looked like will-o'-the-wisps, but these objects escaped.
Subsequently, Go suspected that the will-o'-the-wisps might be monsters and consulted his teammates. However, they believed it was merely phosphorus burning in the air. With Captain Ryu Ibuki's permission, Go and Ippei Ueno conducted an on-site inspection, but all theories were dismissed by Ueno. Meanwhile, the woman who had been trapped was taken to the hospital, and Kishida visited her twice a day. Kishida, usually serious in demeanor, appeared unusually excited upon seeing the woman and had even started thinking about marriage. Go hoped to learn more from the woman at the hospital, but Kishida said she needed complete rest and was not available to see anyone.
In reality, the woman, Akane Hirota, was recovering well, and her relationship with Kishida became close. The next day, Kishida visited Akane and told her that "good things have been happening recently" and discussed the radar that was nearing completion. However, upon hearing about the radar, Akane's expression suddenly turned gloomy, and she began to cry. She then asked Kishida to leave.
At that time, a monster named Granadas appeared at the location where Go and the others had initially rescued Akane. Kishida, summoned to the scene, accepted the necklace Akane had given him and bid her farewell. Meanwhile, Granadas was advancing towards the radar Kishida had been developing. Kishida was picked up by Go, who was driving the MAT vehicle, and they hurried to the site. Other team members, aboard the MAT Arrow 1, engaged in an attack and executed a "triangular operation" with Go and the others on the ground. However, Granadas was not threatened at all. To protect the radar, Kishida had Go disembark from the MAT vehicle and launched a suicide attack. Granadas fled underground, and Kishida miraculously survived. Kishida was deeply pained by Akane's rejection. When Go visited Akane, he discovered that she was an Alien Centaurus. Akane then began to explain the situation.
Concerned about the danger posed by the radar Kishida was developing, the Centaurus constellation had sent Granadas and other aliens to Earth to destroy it. However, one of these aliens, before the destruction orders were given, took on the appearance of a young Earth woman and named herself Akane. She lived on Earth and developed a fondness for its inhabitants. The place where Go and Kishida had encountered her was where Akane was being punished for betraying her home planet. Akane also had special feelings for Kishida, who frequently visited her, but upon realizing that the radar she was supposed to destroy was Kishida's labor of love, she felt unworthy of seeing him again.
At this time, Akane received orders from her home planet to destroy the radar. If the radar were destroyed, the Centaur constellation would commence its invasion of Earth. When they arrived at the site, MAT was already engaged in battle with Granadas. Go transformed into Ultraman Jack and began the fight. Meanwhile, Kishida, serving as a liaison at the rear, encountered Akane once again. Akane revealed her true identity and purpose to Kishida, disclosing that she had explosives implanted in her body to destroy the radar. She then bid farewell to Kishida, reverted to her Alien Centaurus form, and attacked Granadas, who had defeated Jack. After falling into a massive crater, she self-destructed, exchanging her life for the destruction of Granadas.
At Akane's grave, Kishida shed tears, and Go said to him, "You truly did something wonderful. You were able to touch the heart of an alien for the first time on this Earth."[3]To the Starry Sky with Love
During the final battle, he and the other members resisted Zetton II's attacks. At that moment, Alien Bat, realizing that MAT was not at the base, attacked the MAT headquarters, destroying all the core nuclear reactors of the facility. While Go piloted the MAT Arrow 1 to attack Zetton II, MAT split into two groups, with Kishida and other members providing support from the ground.
With the help of MAT, Ultraman launched a counterattack. After an intense battle, he successfully defeated Alien Bat and Zetton II. Although MAT triumphed over their formidable foes, Go disappeared. All the MAT members mourned for Go at the shore before leaving the scene. The 5 Ultra Oaths

Trivia[]
- According to a 2015 interview, writer Shozo Uehara stated that Kishida was originally conceived as a man who is very confident and proud about his shooting skills. Kishida feels that Go possesses an indescribable power, and perceives his own existence as threatened, leading him to vent his frustration or find fault. Go, on the other hand, needs to overcome the friction with Kishida in order to grow further.
- Producer Yoji Hashimoto mentioned that, although internal conflicts within MAT were set up, he did not want the actors to bring the story's conflicts into real life. At the time, the actor playing Go, Jiro Dan, was a newcomer. It would have been troubling if he felt too isolated on set, so for the antagonistic role of Kishida, an actor who could take care of others, like Ken Nishida, was deliberately chosen. The growth of Jiro Dan as a young actor and the character of Go was, in a sense, synchronous. Therefore, having supportive people around him was essential.
