The Flesh Eating Moths is a monster that appeared in episode 2 of Operation: Mystery.

Flesh Eating Moths are a type of moth carrying Chiras Bacteria . Recently, the skeletal remains of a Mars Auto designer named Saijo were discovered by police on a highway. Just the day before, he had received a special bonus from the finance department as usual. The Metropolitan Police Department considers this an unusual criminal case and has sought cooperation from the SRI. The investigation of the remains revealed the presence of chiras bacteria, which rapidly corrodes all substances except animal bones. In addition to Saijo, two other bodies were discovered on the same night.
The two victims included Masato Kuramoto, a designer for Mars Automobile, and his wife. They died after being attacked while mourning the late Saijo on their yacht. The harmonica that Kuramoto played before his death was also found to have traces of chiras bacteria and scales from Lepidoptera insects.
Maki speculated that since the incident occurred at night, the victims were likely attacked by moths carrying Listeria bacteria. However, upon hearing this, Mizawa believed, “Since there are two Mars Automobile designers among the victims, it is highly likely that this was a planned murder involving the use of moths’ phototaxis to target the Mars Automobile designers.” This led to a divergence in their reasoning, and Mizawa, acting unilaterally, went to visit acquaintances working at Mars Automobile and began the investigation.
Mizawa’s acquaintance, Yokoyama, stated that Mars Automobile is currently in the final design stages for a new model. Although they lost two designers, there should be no problem as long as Hidemi Nitta, the project leader, is still around. Mizawa suspected that the next target might be Nitta. After reporting this to SRI, Mizawa planned to go to Nitta’s location but was kidnapped halfway there. Mizawa also took the opportunity to send an SOS signal. When Maki visited Nitta’s home to ensure the safety of Nitta and his family and to inform them about the ongoing murder case, they discovered a Flesh Eating Moth inside the house. Since the moth was near the baby’s crib, they were unable to confront it directly. They turned off the fan in the room and quickly rescued the baby before escaping from Nitta’s house.
Meanwhile, Nomura successfully tracked the transmitter and captured a perpetrator, discovering the location of the mastermind behind the crimes. Mizawa, who had been imprisoned by the perpetrator, managed to escape. At this time, a stray cat knocked over a box containing the Flesh Eating Moths, which caused the cat to rapidly disintegrate into a skeleton.
In reality, the mastermind behind the series of murders was an industrial spy named Uno, working for a foreign competitor. He had been paid a large sum of money for his actions. However, when he was eventually cornered by the police and SRI at his hideout, he too was attacked by the Flesh Eating Moths and turned into a skeleton.
