According to director Kazuya Konaka, the planning of this episode contrasts with the concept of "the future" presented in the first episode "A New Light (Part 1)." The goal was to revisit and reflect on the origin of Dyna's birth, which is why the setting was placed on Mars. Through this process, the episode clearly defines "what Ultraman Dyna is," with Zeluganoid being a key part of this journey. Ultimately, all of this serves as a turning point for Asuka to rediscover himself.[2]
Regarding the existence of Terranoid, Konaka and writer Keiichi Hasegawa had some vague discussions about the ending's plot during the production of episodes 1 and 2.
According to screenwriter Keiichi Hasegawa, the Terranoid statue was made from kapok material.
Although Gondou is a key figure in this episode, there were initial considerations to add scenes involving Gondou and Tetsuji Yoshioka's memories. There was also some thought about linking this to Ultraman Tiga. However, these elements were ultimately omitted.
As a compromise, stock footage of Ultraman Tiga and Tiga's companions' statues from Tiga's Pyramid was used in the episode as part of Iruma's explanation to Hibiki about Project F.
The last three episodes, including this one, is compiled into the complete edition of the Final Chapters, titled "Toward the Light..." (ひかりへ…, Hikari e…), released for the "Ultraman Dyna Special" DVD Edition released in 2000.
Before the events of this episode, on July 7, 2020, Asuka's mission to Mars was to escort Advisor Souichiro Sawai, who was visiting Mars for the second time to officiate the launch ceremony of the Second Stage Atmospheric Modification System. That evening, Gousuke Hibiki and Megumi Iruma had planned to meet at a bar. During their conversation, they reminisced about events that took place during the Ultraman Tiga and Ultraman Dyna periods. This 30-minute recap is included in the "Ultraman Dyna Special".
Zeluganoid was originally planned to appear in episodes 25 and 26, based on the proposed script "Solar System Annihilation." In this version, Takeru Fudo, who appeared in episodes 1 and 2, would have been consumed by Sphere and transformed into Zeluganoid.[3]
This episode was later featured in Ultraman Retsuden episode 36 "A New Shadow! Zeluganoid Appears!!"
This episode was temporarily made available on the official Ultraman YouTube channel two days after Ultraman Z episode 24 "The Game to Extinction" aired, due to Terranoid's similarity to Ultroid Zero.[4]
